You're welcome. And I am proud

I think it's a good thing that Sony introduced the PSP Go... I want all manufacturers to push harder for downloadable games in the next gen, and this can help!

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

I support PSP(not only go) because there are so many great games that are coming, like GTA:China Town, LBP, God Eater, Bio Hazard......I think it is the critical point that PSP will be succeed.

@Rainbird

/bow, your post was very respectful. Allow me to followup on your many excellent arguments:

I respect your opinion. However, those opposing arguments seem a tad shallow, imo.

The arguments against this device are very strong.

Costs more to the consumer, cheaper to make. You explained why, but you're wrong. B&M stores won't get a significantly bigger commission on the Go. This is all about profit for Sony.

The console is a significant downgrade in most ways, when it comes to gaming. It is certainly not an upgrade. It has one, fairly insignificant multimedia upgrade, and two very precise downgrades. The screen size is unacceptably downgraded, and this is marginalized by the "more portable" argument, despite the fact that portability has never really been a complaint with the PSP.

Also, you express disdain towards those of us who have gamefly, rent, or buy games from Ebay for much cheaper than they are available from Sony. Then, you claim you can buy new games cheaper than used games from gamespot? Not anymore, sir. You will pay full price from now on...and if you think Sony is gonna let you share your PSP Go games with friends, you are kidding us all.

This device is the ultimate representation of what is wrong with Sony's business model. We are expected to pay more for less, and when we ask why, Sony gives us some arbitrary excuse about how they have to charge more in order to appease a certain group, like boardmembers, B&M stores, or just to recoup costs of development. They have removed many of the features that make the PSP so cool, because they weren't profitable to Sony.

The truth is this:

Sony is broke. The Go! is the ultimate color change, for the PSP. Sony wanted to address the problem of piracy on the console, and at the same time, increase software sales. They knew that PSP games are within the DD range of most consumers. Ironically, Sony realized, this anti-piracy console actually costs less to produce, due to the lack of a UMD station(along with a few other cut corners that they could blame on portability), and thus, the Go! handheld was born. This is the same theory that led to the loss of BC in the PS3. Sony knows that they have a vast number of core supporters that will buy the console no matter what the price. Sony decided to take advantage of that loyalty(like Apple) by charging a higher price for initial versions of the product, realizing the newness of the console would draw in a lot of early adopters, who don't realize the console is actually a downgrade, and instead buy it because of value as a status symbol, and/or because it "looks cool," and/or because they are deluded into thinking that the Go! is actually an upgrade from their older model.

Sony kept the 3000 on the market because they realized the vast majority of knowledgeable consumers would view the dropping of support for the PSP 2-3000 models as a betrayal from the company. The Go! does, afterall, remove most of the freedom inherent to the PSP, and would alienate a large subculture, were it to be supported over the old hacker models. It would also be viewed as an admission from the company that UMD had failed as a media delivery system, which it obviously has, considering Sony themselves are bitter they are saddled with it, and feel its omission from the console is an upgrade.

Think on this: Imagine Sony keeps this business strategy for the PS4. No BC for PS3, because Sony wants to keep on selling PS3s, while the 720 has FC, which allows older games to play smoother on the new hardware. The games have proprietary burn software, mandatory installs, and required online registration, which attach them to your console, the first time you play them, meaning PS4 games can only be bought new. The PS4 costs more than the original PS3 did, at launch, and yet, doesn't come with a Blu-Ray drive.

Of course that would never happen. Sony would go out of business. Microsoft would push their advantage over Sony's ignorant pricing strategy. A downgraded console, with a faster processor, and proprietary game delivery would put an end to the Playstation home console.

So, why is it acceptable here? Why doesn't it ruin the PSP? Because you can still buy the old console. Also, because the competition doesn't exist for a console like this. It is the exact opposite of everything the DS represents, and it aims for a completely different target market. If the PSP 2 takes its lead from how the Go sells, then for Sony's sake, let's hope it bombs.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

You don't even have to have a disc in your UMD to play your games on the original PSP. Its loss is simply the loss of the option to use any physical media. It has never been required, and indeed, most use the UMD as a backup for their memory cards.

I think the PSP is already a success. They weren't competing with the DS for the largest part, and with handhelds, many people own 2 or more. The PSP has been a moderate success story, imo.

If it was coming out for 2 hundred dollars I would probably get it. That use the PS3 controller option is totally cool. I wonder if it will work with the wires for for PSPs that connect to the tv. It would make things interesting.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.
