Forums - Microsoft - Kikizo - Natal: Why it's a Bigger Thing Than Critics Think

I just don't get all the Natal excitement... I loved the unveil and I know there are some neat things you can do with it. But I have to say that more often than not it will just be a supplemental option on games.

I may just be missing some of the important information? Aside from face recognition and a microphone, what exactly does it do that the PSeye doesn't?

It should be much more accurate and versatile than the PSeye, due to its IR camera which can get more information than a normal camera. That's what allows Natal to see a 3D-like picture.

I would have thought after "BAM! There it is" people would understand this is an incomplete technology that isn't even comparable to the wand or Wii Motion Plus in discerning finite movement (at the moment anyway), but some people will swallow anything if its from their favorite company.

In case you weren't actually able to see what was happening at the press conference, the demonstrator actually turned around backwards and lifted his foot slowly. The camera didn't understand his motion at all.

What? Sounds like someone hasn't read the article, or any of the articles of people who have had hands on demos of the technology. It's very good at discerning finite movement, just the software to take advantage of the input is in its infancy.

I've seen almost as many articles about people who have trouble with it (most recently N'Gai Croal) as I have with people who got it working. What that shows is an inconsistent and incomplete product. I'm sorry but there is nothing whatsoever to get hyped about right now, and Milo's voice recognition was staged, so all we know that actually works in it is the motion sensing, which we know for a fact does not work all the time.

PS: Before I get accused of anything, that had nothing to do with N'Gai being black, but with natal being inconsistent.

Actually those articles are just speculating, as it has been confirmed that most of the processing happens in the Natal peripheral, and the games will just have to receive the data on the body's position.

This thread has so much logic, i dont know what to say

the light bulb had to be created sometime..!

I think it's more about what can you "as a developer" deploy way's of use with the technology on hand,
example : both Sony and Microsoft's development may seem at first "campy, half hearted attempt" at cashing in on Nintendo's main theme for game interactivity but in My Opinion it's just a evolution of the way most thing's in the Tech. industry move anyway someone creates the light bulb..but than someone create's a better light bulb.
It still does not mean the first light bulb has no viable use..its still perform's as it has already did, and does not mean the person who created the light bulb will not perfect their design too.

i think people are being overly pessimistic about microsoft's or Sony's new control scheme's,I think because "people thought both Sony an Microsoft feel about Nintendo's Motion control's as a cheap gimic"

which i think it was the press trying to incite that.

To me it just seem's people want to be overly pessimistic for the sake of being overly pessimistic.

Microsoft's ne project on motion control's may have issue's right now but I tend to see that as a challenge for Microsoft to overcome and make something pretty cool. i for one would like to try it out when it get's to the market and I hope its also made for the PC.

I think the control scheme could be pretty cool, i am just waiting for when it get's released before i pass judgement on it.

I AM BOLO

100% lover "nothing else matter's" after that...

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

*sigh* Natal is absolutely something I'd use if it work when it's released, but there is nothing to be hyped about at the moment. We are talking about a piece of hardware that is at minimum a year and a half away, and shows inconsistency even though it's only ever been tested in a white empty room with no other objects or people within interference range.

Be cautious. Don't jump on bandwagons so fast. If gaming has taught me anything it's that anything but cautious optimism or anticipation before the release of a product is foolish, much less an incomplete product. Don't set yourself up for huge disappointment. Stop hyping something that isn't ready to be hyped. At this time next year, after it's refined and showed at E3 again, you can start hyping it if it works consistently.

Right now this is just silly.

ugh. Not another NATAL thread. This has already been hashed out in two different threads, both of which I had to explain 3 times how NATAL could work. I really don't feel like explaining it three times more. Suffice to say, NATAL is very real, it is coming out this fall, it will have games, and it is a viable option for both hardcore gamers and family/party gamers.
