Forums - Nintendo - D-Day Has Arrived: Grand Slam vs Virtua Tennis

I was reading that you have to recalibrate the Wii Remote in between points in Virtua Tennis. Also the online looks to stink. I can't believe that I'm going to say this, but it looks like I'm going to support EA.

Well you did buy Boom Blox so it's not like you never support EA.  And I hear its also one of your favourite games.

I went with GST mainly due to the online and because it looks more polished.

Next year I may buy VT 2010 if Sega fixes the online and polishes the game further.

That sounds like a good plan actually.  I forgot that these are probably going to be annual games.  If you make the wrong decision this time you can always correct it next year.  And let's face it it's not like we will be playing either game much once Wii Sports Resort comes out.  Basically just a filler for Wii motion plus experience until the real experience comes out next month.

ok i played a little bit more now and the online part in GST is good and lag free. I Won my first matches and it makes fun coz of the leader boards.

Also the controls how u r suppossed to do it works better now with practise but it's still not precise as i was expecting it to be, thats why i still recommend to rent the game (and VT) first and then make a decision.

Can you rent WiiMotion+?

VT09 i don't think sega even use the m+ in that game. I'm going to trade in my VT for GST. At least i can see the 1to1 with that game with just moving my racket from side to side.

in the store i was, they dident even know what WM+ is but that was a few days ago maybe they know by now and will have it for rent.

Or u can just buy wm+ for 20,- as u will most likely wanna own more than 1 anyway.

Grand Slam isn't really 1:1, and as others have said it takes practice before you can get the ball where you want it to go. That said, once you're in the swing of things (some pun intended) it works pretty good: just remember to take the game at its own terms and you'll be fine.

I haven't played VT, but I hopped on the Grand Slam train because the developers were eager to show their game off, while Sega's still pretty mum about Virtua Tennis, and that alarms me.

What's the problem with VT2009 online?

I keep reading "I heard it's buggy, I heard it's buggy"

Anyone care to clarify?

While the games played without too much lag or glitches for the most part, there seemed to be a strange occurrence that when you hit the ball, the ball stops momentarily in front of the opposing player before they return it. We’re not sure if this was a deliberate attempt to counter lagging, or whether it actually is lagging, but it completely changes the flow of a game and is very off-putting. If this is a deliberate feature, and it seems to be as other people have complained about it and it happened to us everytime we logged on, then this is a major flaw. Considering Virtua Tennis is a game built on speed, we’re surprised by this decision if it was indeed deliberate.

Sega is patching the PS3 and 360 versions, but I doubt the Wii version will be patched.

I just played GST, but without WM+ as it should arrive next week only, so I'm not going to comment on the controls (except to say there's quite a lot more control than in Wii Sports, even without WM+).

I played online for a while and it was flawless, quick to start a game too. There were 180 players online according to the game (don't know if it's worldwide or just Europe?). Couldn't see a difference between playing online and locally. The game is quite polished as far as I've seen, with a lot of options.
