the good part is that with the PS Eye we can have video chats with people =]

During gameplay of games not made for the PS Eye? That would be nice, but really uneeded as it impeeds the "shit talking" atmosphere.

it has a built in mic so you can talk in game too

I figured as much but can you use it any online game regardless (like let's say resistance).

It might do well then, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to look the person in the face when smack talking them. The card game will be an unquestionable flop, the PS-Eye itself might do well as a communications device, but that's about all.

It seems like the game is liked at kotaku

 Does that mean anything?

Can someone please tell me what trading card game in the last five years hasn't been based off an already-popular franchise of some nature? I can't think of any besides Yu-Gi-Oh!, which was based off a popular anime. Before that it was Pokémon, based off one of the most popular franchises in modern history. Before that was a true original in Magic the Gathering.

I can't think of any recent examples of card games based on a new universe that sell well.

"The Spoils".

It came out a year or two ago by a bunch of people who played magic but wanted a more balanced game.

I'm not sure if it's still around though.

Touché. I've actually met one of the people who created The Spoils, my college's Science Fiction Society (of which I'm the secretary for this year) got to do some late beta testing with it.

That said, Eye of Judgment won't break 500,000. Lifetime.

I will wager it lands at 100k after one week (primarily American audience), 200k after one month, 350k lifetime. This package has no legs.

PS3: 5.51m/51w, avg 108,039/w (up 239)
360: 12.93m/102w, avg 126,764/w (up 625), leads PS3 by 7.42m (up 70k), avg lead 18,725/w (up 386)
Wii: 13.52m/51w, avg 265,098/w (dn 1,102), leads PS3 by 8.01m (up 90k), avg lead 157,059/w (dn 1,341)

If 360 sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass 360 by...
01/08: (008w) +875.8%, 04/08: (021w) +344.4%, 07/08: (034w) +219.3%, 10/08: (047w) +163.5%
01/09: (060w) +131.8%, 04/09: (073w) +111.4%, 07/09: (085w) +098.1%, 10/09: (099w) +086.7%
If Wii sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass Wii by...
01/08: (008w) +1072.%, 04/08: (021w) +498.4%, 07/08: (034w) +363.4%, 10/08: (047w) +303.1%
01/09: (060w) +269.0%, 04/09: (073w) +246.9%, 07/09: (085w) +232.6%, 10/09: (099w) +220.3%
If PS2 sales freeze, Wii sales increases needed to pass PS2 (as of Mar07, 108.4m) by...
2008: (008w) +4373.8%, 2009: (060w) +0496.5%, 2010: (112w) +0219.6%, 2011: (165w) +0116.9%
2012: (217w) +0064.9%, 2013: (269w) +0033.1%, 2014: (321w) +0011.5%, 2015: (376w) -0004.8%
At +0% it will pass it in 358w, the week ending September 19th, 2014, at an age of 409w (7y44w).
Current age of PS2: 7y37w.

Last update: Week ending November 3, 2007

@ Girl Gamer Elite )

could you be kind enough and tell us what would be a "flop" to you in this case ? We can't argue with you , if we don't know what exactly you mean by that.

I already told you my conditions for a "success" : breaking even (should be possible with 100-200k sales ww) , introducing a working online system to card games , announcement of new card based titles to follow this

These are low conditions , because sales wise I don't have high expectations for this game.
So what are your conditions to make it a "success" or a "flop"?

I think the PS-EYE will break 500K, so to me it's just a matter of how long the game stays bundled to the PS Eye.  As for how many people you'll actually find online playing it though, i imagine it'll be one of those very rare cult games that are supported by a couple hardcore websites.

Then again maybe not.  I kinda expect the PSEye to be picked up mostly for secondary functions and not for the games that it was designed for.  If the thing is utilized a lot i could see sales of this game doing well with people just tossing the cards out.  Or can you get the Eye without the game as well?

If not I could see it being a Wiiplay situation, if so... I don't think it'll work like Wii-play because most gamers i know have trouble keeping track of instruction booklets, let alone cards.  So i don't see it getting mass appeal for people who would want it for camera options.

I know this one racing game in an arcade by me uses a camera to take your picture and use it as your icon.  If Devs are "encouraged" to implement these kinds of options into PS3's the Eye could have greater sales expectations then expected for the novelety aspects.

I think it'd take a lot more then 100-200K to break it even, considering being the first to intergrate the eye and such. I'm sure the Eye's development costs are atleast being partily laid opon the game. Not to mention that you have to open up a card factory in addition to the usual games factories and have to divert resources to making the cards. This likely has a lot more costs to.

What will determine success won't be if it sells up to 100K. It'll be if it sells a lot of cards. That's where the real profit will be made.

Its being released seperatly at $39.99
