Can someone please tell me what trading card game in the last five years hasn't been based off an already-popular franchise of some nature? I can't think of any besides Yu-Gi-Oh!, which was based off a popular anime. Before that it was Pokémon, based off one of the most popular franchises in modern history. Before that was a true original in Magic the Gathering.

I can't think of any recent examples of card games based on a new universe that sell well.

"The Spoils".

It came out a year or two ago by a bunch of people who played magic but wanted a more balanced game.

I'm not sure if it's still around though.

Touché. I've actually met one of the people who created The Spoils, my college's Science Fiction Society (of which I'm the secretary for this year) got to do some late beta testing with it.

That said, Eye of Judgment won't break 500,000. Lifetime.

I will wager it lands at 100k after one week (primarily American audience), 200k after one month, 350k lifetime. This package has no legs.

I think the PS-EYE will break 500K, so to me it's just a matter of how long the game stays bundled to the PS Eye.  As for how many people you'll actually find online playing it though, i imagine it'll be one of those very rare cult games that are supported by a couple hardcore websites.

Then again maybe not.  I kinda expect the PSEye to be picked up mostly for secondary functions and not for the games that it was designed for.  If the thing is utilized a lot i could see sales of this game doing well with people just tossing the cards out.  Or can you get the Eye without the game as well?

If not I could see it being a Wiiplay situation, if so... I don't think it'll work like Wii-play because most gamers i know have trouble keeping track of instruction booklets, let alone cards.  So i don't see it getting mass appeal for people who would want it for camera options.

I know this one racing game in an arcade by me uses a camera to take your picture and use it as your icon.  If Devs are "encouraged" to implement these kinds of options into PS3's the Eye could have greater sales expectations then expected for the novelety aspects.
