Forums - Gaming - remember when controllers weren't $50? (part 2)

here's the old post:

-----------------------------------------------

no matter which of the 3 major consoles you own, you are most likely paying out the ass to play your games.

xbox 360 controller - $50

ps3 sixaxis- $50

ps3 daul shock 3 (coming soon)- $55

wii mote + nun chuk- $60 (add another $20 for every classic controller if you want to play certain vc games).

wasn't it only last gen that i was throwing down $30 for the daul shock 2? screw that, i would get a wired controller if it saved me $25 a pop.

------------------------------------------------

So, a year has past since this post and things continue to get more.... expensive. $25 for wii motion + (bringing the total to $105 to individually buy one of each NECESSARY controller), god knows how much for the ps3/360 motion control solution will cost.

Now, there is always a controller that comes bundled with a console and nintendo is doing their best to do some other game/controller bundles, but why at this point are controllers not bundled with.... controllers! Why at this point can you not purchase a wiimote/nunchuk or wiimote/motion + bundle at a discount? Why are classic controllers and or motion +'s not bundled in with the purchase of a wii console?

Also, why is the $25 dvd remote not bundled in with the purchase of a ps3?

All this on top of dozens of shells, gimmicky controllers, headsets, HD cables, memory cards, hard drives, charging docks, keyboards.

Just last generation it was 1 controller for $30 (or less) and memory cards for $25 (or less).

Can't you just use any USB keyboard? I don't think anyone uses memory cards now... hard drives you can just buy one from any store/brand for the PS3, and the rest IMHO aren't really that illogical because they have functionality outside of video consoles (HDMI cables, for e.g.)

Tastyshovelware, you have to add in the cost of recharge kits for Wii and 360; also include the cost of a usb cable beacuse the $55 dualshock 3's don't come with one (the original one in the box comes with one but not the extras).

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

This generation seriously increased the price of controllers. $20-25 for a first party controller was more or less the norm for a good while.

And then they double it because they're now wireless.

...

I really shouldn't be complaining since I did spend a lot on three Street Fighter IV TE Sticks so um ...

@Akvod

Memory cards are still important if you're the kind of gamer that wants to use your content on someone else's console (example: I want to use my unlocked soul caliber characters while playing on someone else's console).

I'll give you the USB/keyboard thing though.

this generation is better, imo, cost wise for gaming accessories. americans who already pay the least for stuff are the first to complain.

last generation for me as a canadian ps2 owner

ps2 controller - $50
ps2 8mb memory card - $50
multitap - $20
HDD/online adaptor - $60

this gen
ps3 dualshock - $70 (imported)
ps2 memory card adaptor - $15

Demon's Souls Official Thread  | Currently playing: Left 4 Dead 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Magicka

btw, its $20 for WM+ not $25. That $5 is just Gamestop's slap you in the face and kick your balls price.

Wii Motion+ is $20, not $25. I wouldn't call it necessary either. I also wouldn't call the classic controller necessary. I still haven't taken mine out of the package.

lol.

I had the same epiphany with the N64. Mostly because it was the first console that came standard with 4 controller ports, but it was $90 to get an additional 3 controllers!

@ theRepublic

classic controller is necessary if you want to play a good number of the games on the virtual console (most notably, n64 as well as some snes, genesis, and neo geo titles) and never owned gamecube controllers.

motion + is also necessary if you want the full gaming experience from the games that utilize it.
