Forums - Gaming - IGN Reviews Prototype... ouch.

It doesnt matter how LONG a game is... what matters is how replayable the game is.

Obviously if IGN is saying it's repetitive (ie boring) and lacks any substance, then the replay value is not very good in Prototype.

Wait, a 20 hour gets a 6.5 for lasting appeal?

I don't care about Prototype that much but that's pretty much bullshit.

Just for some perspective:

Heavenly Sword, about 6 hours, got a 5.0 for lasting appeal

House of the Dead Overkill, which lasts just under 2 1/2 hours with some extras that total nowhere near 20 hours, got an 8.0 for lasting appeal

Uncharted, at best 10 hours, got an 8.5 for lasting appeal

Again, I don't care a lot about this game but 6.5 for a 20 hour game is just stupid.

But isn't lasting appeal about replayability (how many times you want to replay the game) rather then how long the single player mission lasts?

I beat 50% of it in about 6 hours... so I dont know what 20 hours they are talking about. The game is so hectic however, it has been the most fun 6 hours ive had in a while...

but Lasting appeal has to be dependent on genre. Otherwise you'd have to compare everything to RPG's and every other genre would be boned.

Now what would be useful is looking at the lasting appeal scores for other open world games like GTA. Also Lasting appeal can differ if the 20 hours is really repetitive or boring, you can just look at the time it takes to complete and compare on a scale.

I agree that it differs from game to game, but 20 hours is longer than most people even play most games so 6.5 is incredibly low.

Yes, because IGN is god.

Even with the IGN review on the 360, this is still higher than Infamous.

I haven't even played it yet....but I have a hard time buying that this game is a 7.5. Sounds to me like the reviewer got a little of his personal opinion mixed up in the review. I have only glanced at metacritic and here is what I predict.

7/10 from either Edge or Eurogamer. 7.5 to 8.5 out of 10 from Gamespot. 4/5 from Giant Bomb. 8.0 or higher from Gametrailers.

Those are great reviews from those sites. If this game manages them, then IGN will pretty much be a fluke. If not, then I've misread the whispers.

But  how good is 20 hours when it comes to open world games?  Pretty sure it's short for that type of game, and then the lack of replayability hurts it as well as the repetitive gameplay (think I read that, not totally sure).  I'm not saying they're right in giving it a 6.5, but I think if fits what is written just find and you can't write it off just because the game is 20 hours long.

There's also No More Heroes that I'm sure isn't 20 hours that got a 7.5 and both of those are open world.

InFamous > Prototype.

I hate to compare games, but we had Infamous vs Prototype threads here for the past few months. Sony gets both games, and the better game :)

nice spin, glad to know you actually played both games..... oh wait you didn't.

But it's just IGN UK :(
I usually agree more with IGN US.

Edit: It seems it actually is IGN US afterall...
