You lose status, but you do not lose your coins.
There seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread, so I'll dish out some information...
- You get your status by EARNING coins, not by having coins (300/600 for Gold/Platinum repsectively)
- This means that if you have 600 coins unspent this Nintendo year, next Nintendo year you'll have a Regular status rather than Platinum but still retain your 600 coins
- You'll have to EARN another 300/600 coins for Gold/Platinum Status for the next year
- Your saved coins are valid for use for only TWO YEARS, so spend them before that time comes
- If you spend your coins at any point, you STILL RETAIN your current status
If anyone already has 600 EARNED COINS for this Nintendo year, I suggest holding off before earning more. June 31st is the last day of the Nintendo year, so July 1st is when you should start earning coins for next year's prizes. Personally I have 200-250 coins ready to be claimed, but I'm waiting since I already hit the 600 mark.
If you've earned less than your desired status, then I suggest you hurry and achieve it. If you have, lets say 250 only, you won't get any prizes from Nintendo and will have to start over again for the next year (you still retain the coins though, remember).
