Well not "absurdly" hard, but still tough. I got through it okay, but my fiance nearly gave up in the final dungeon. Red Dragons - they're a bitch!

Stop is your best friend throughout this game, I swear.

@Soriku:

Young man, you go to your room, and you don't come out until you hear "Battle of the Four Fiends" in context.

It was funny that some of the end game random battles were harder than the bosses themselves.

It's easy to say that, but boy was I glad that Kain had Phoenix while I was fighting Zeromus.

Oh me too. It really made the game broken in a way. Just give him a pheonix down and an ether. Boom, you're good to go again.

I was really low at final boss, so I had some trouble with him. So I went to underworld and bought like 30 fuma shurikens. Since they hit like 5k (others hit like 2-3k, except Rydia, but she got 1 hit by Big Bang, thats how low lvl I was). I just kept Edge and Rose alive. When he started using meteors, I revived Kain and Cecil and finished him.

thanks, but I must tell you guys, I never expected this from FF4 because people (majority) have never raved on & on about it, probably because it is very old now.

It was probably my "surprisingly good" game of this year.

Glad to hear it. It's also one of my favorite games, and it makes me happy to see other people enjoying it.

Kain is probably still the single best character in the series for me - if not, it's very close.

Yeah, he's certainly up there for me too.

Not that a villain isn't considered a character, but who is your favourite villain?

@khuutra

well I've not finished the game, judging by what you say, I have a lot to see from kain!

Oooooo - tssssssss. That's tough. This series has a lot of strong villains.

Kefka's an obvious contender, and I really like both Venat and Vayne from XII. Hell, I like Gabranth too, as far as that goes. But the DS remake's retranslation did a lot to build up Zemus and Golbez as villains, so they're good too...

I mean, if I absolutely had to pick? It would be either Kefka or Vayne. I'm not sure which.

I've played 2 FF games, FFVII and FFIV DS. Before I start ranting let me just say that both games are amazing, so although I might be picking on them, I get nit picky with all games.

Difficulty: FFVII wins
whenever I talk about games in general, the difficulty is big for me, FFVII is challenging without being merciless, while FFIV on the other hand is about as easy as piloting a supersonic jet through a tornado! There were several occasions where I had to fight two insanely difficult bosses right in a row with no break in between.

Combat: Tie
The one thing VII has over IV is that the ATB is quicker while still making it feel that it's not instantaneous, but I felt with 3 characters in battle I found myself trying to do too much at once, while IV's ATB's were much slower, the 5 character limit was more balanced

Music: Tie

there's not really much to say, Uematsu is a great composer

Characters: FFVII wins
I felt that each character in VII was more vibrant and colorful than those in IV, most people don't know that you could go the entire length of VII
without ever meeting Vincent or Yuffie although that's another point, some of IV's characters felt uneeded or too stereotypical such as Edward
who doesn't stay in your party for very long, or Rosa who always had to be by Cecil's side

Fuma's did 9k for me and regulars did 5k each.

Bahamut did 5-7k each time.

Cecil did 2-3k per attack.

Rosa Omnicasted Haste. (plus Curage)

Kain jumped.

I won.

It's a nice little discussion in here. I'm also playing FF IV DS atm, and I'm loving it. A challenging FF? finally!

Vayne is far too often overlooked, as is FFXII in general. And I love Golbez as well but...

It's hard to stray away from the obvious when Kefka really was just that good... uh, or evil.
