Forums - Sony - Is SIXAXIS officially now irrelevant?

Sony's initial play into motion control was SIXAXIS In the PS3 controller.  However, it looks like they are going with a dual wand controller set (along with the Web cam) as their future motion control solution.  Because of this, would people here say that SIXAXIS is now irrelevant to Sony as a motion control solution?

Only the ghost of Christmas past knows...

Sixaxis was always irrelevant. The only game I can think of that included sixaxis motion control as anything more than an occasional easter egg was Lair, a game that was pretty much universally panned. Sixaxis was a marketing move so that sony could say 'hey, we have motion controls tooo'.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Id say no. This moton control thingy is a whole different genre imo. SIXAXIS still provides some feeling to games when using it for aim, balance etc.

You totally forgot Flower! And I think the Sixaxis is still a good thing. It's like saying the wiimote is irrelevant without the wii motion plus.

Uncharted, R&C, KZ2, Flower etc etc... all have sixaxis features. EDIT. Even the latest inFamous has SIXAXIS feature!

No, it's like saying the Nintendo Classic Controller for the Wii is irrelevant. It's okay for the occasional downloadable game, but if anyone tried to release a full, AAA, 60$ for it they would be openly mocked.

I think it will continue to be used as it has been. An neat optional add on for some games.

However, a game will come out of no where, rely on it, and do so beautifully.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I think Heavenly Sword was the first game to use the SixAxis well.
