Forums - Sales - Disappointing Infamous PS3 sales for the 1st week

Slimebeast posted 12/04/2009, 12:37
I predict 82% on Gamerankings, 240,000 copies 1st week and 800,000 lifetime.

- Actual current Metacritic: 85%
- Actual sales: 185,000 copies 1st week

In fairness, I find it unrealistic to expect the first in a series(no matter how good) to really push hardware sales. Granted, it does happen from time to time, but it's pretty uncommon.

The only teeth strong enough to eat other teeth.

thoes predicting gloom and doom you do realise that 180 k openings are good for good first party ps3 games. Ratchet future only sold 130k first week during christmas season and went over a million, uncharted sold 130k as well during christmas season and sold well over 1 million before being bundled.

Very good opening week

The last time I saw a commercial for a ps3 game was for KZ2. Sony and Microsoft dont' seem to be big on the advertising, at least not on the television channels i watch. I'm sure sales would have been boosted if some time was spent advertising.

The airwaves, from what I've seen, are dominated by Wii fit + the variety of smaller games nintendo promotes.

I was very pleased with American Sales. UK sales 2nd week are on track to be better than its first apparantly because the first week in UK is only 2 days.

Plus Uncharted 2 beta will keep its legs going throughout June and I think that Holidays will see a nice bump just because of the fact parents will be more willing to buy it for their kids since its rated T instead of M. I know if I was 12-13 my parents would only let me play T games. It also seems like the holiday type of game. Suckerpunch is known for good legs (see Sly Cooper)

LOL...this is too rich...pardon the pun, but Sucker Punch got sucker punched by consumers!

Wow 180k-185k? Thats actually pretty good considering the amount of small hype that was behind it until a week before release

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

No sane person thought it was going to cause a boost in hardware sales, and the game is nowhere near as big as MGS4 or Killzone 2. The commercials were great and they played all the time on various stations. The sales aren't amazing but they're still fine.

God I need a drink.

Someone give this man a prize. Agree 100% with everything. Best commercial for a PS3 game I've seen so far.

It's all about the game.

It's summer time and kids are out camping and doing other things. Infamous sales will pick up during the the months. Uncharted 1st week sales was 133,883 and it sold over 3 million including the bundles. Just because a game didn't start off well on it's 1st week don't make it a dissapointment.

Plus I see Infamous commercials everyday.
