Forums - Sales - Apple: 40 million iPhones and iPod Touches sold

Apple revealed this number today at its Worldwide Developers Conference. I'm sure that number is shipped, but it's not bad for a product which is just shy of its second birthday.

I know they aren't direct competitors, but here's what the DS and the PSP sold in the same timeframe to put this in perspective:

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 01st Jul 2007 to 30th May 2009:

Console PSP DS
Total
24,492,338
58,625,654

DS>Ipod/Iphone also in the sales! I hate Apple when it said Iphone is an handheld, it's not, it's a phone!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

And still without any compelling software.

Very good.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

To me it is also a handheld. I have about 60 games on my Iphone and I play them regurarly.

The cool feature of this handheld is, that it is a minicomputer with almsot the same capabilities as a Mac.

31 million PS3's by end of this year

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Good thing I didn't post DS and PSP sales from launch. Then you would've been really pissed off.

Is that LTD sales?

It doesnt matter really, the iphone/itouch are very expensive, im sure a cheaper model would sell through the roof.

The majority of the games are more fun than DS/PSP games

Given the blistering pace of iPhone app sales, the iPhone is a viable competitor.

The #1 game in April sold ~500,000 units, which is pretty good. Not a top-tier DS game, yet, but it's pretty good.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Did they reveal a new iphone?
