Jak and Daxter going against Kratos ?
doesn't sound right to be honest.

Characters are more diverse than Nintendo's , Helgan for example are suited to hand to hand combat.

No they have way more than that. I listed 14 games in the OP that could provide characters and half of those games could bring in atleast 2 or more. Not to mention some characters from games that I didn't list or licensed characters like the ones I mentioned in the OP(cloud, snake, etc.). Camcom vs. Sony would kind of defeat the whole purpose of Sony making the game. It's to showcase Sony characters for it's brands and any additional characters would be just to bolster the line up with popular characters. Sony could easily come up with about 25 characters for their game without licensed characters. The first Smash brothers only had 12 characters. The amount of characters is not the problem.
They could even have cool power ups like the Heavenly Sword or some of Ratchet's guns.
However I wonder if Sony is afraid to marginalize some of it's main characters. I wonder if Sony wouldn't be willing to have Kratos get his as kicked by a mere mortal in Drake or one of it's RPG characters.
As for it being a blatant rip off. Yeah it will probably draw some heat for that but if they make it diffrent enough it shouldn't really effect the success of the game.

thats all of sony's first party franchises. could probably squeeze out 100 or so characters. maps wont be any problem, they can make hundreds. but... they cant copy the exact fighting style of super smash (% ringouts), because THAT would be blatant copyright infringement.
@ Million's "Characters are more diverse than Nintendo's , Helgan for example are suited to hand to hand combat."
uhhh, an italian plumber, a bounty hunter, the hero of time, a dark hole in the form of a pink puffball, an electric rat... hm. i find that a bit more diverse than sony's mostly humanoid protagonists. or do you mean movesets?
Sony has the quantity characters to do it, but their characters are so diverse that the atmosphere of such a game would be ridiculously convulted.
Kratos w/Chaos Blades vs. Nathan Drake w/Pistol vs. Buzz w/Buzzer just doesn't work like Smash Bros. does.
Sony is better off pushing their brand games/characters off more on games they already have such as LittleBigPlanet, Hot Shots Golf/Tennis, PAIN, ModNation Racers, and PlayStation Home. If Sony feels the need to make a fighting game then they should only include other 1st party characters that work well and wouldn't unbalance the game such as Kratos and Nariko.
I hate smash bros. If they did this they should use Tekken or Naruto UNS fighting style...

There's quite a few Sony characters that aren't human. it can be spun both ways.
