On September 14th, the Slim & Lite was released in Europe. Only the "Piano Black" model has been released in Europe, but we have seen quite a healthy increase in sales since it's release. We have seen a near 10k increase in the UK alone from 5k in the week ending 9th September to 14k in the week ending 16th September. Again don't forget the new PSP was only out for 2 days of this week. There has been significant increases over Europe as a whole with sales increasing from 34k to 79k in the same time frame. With the new weekly sales figures due out soon, we should see what further impact the new PSP has on the overall sales.
The PSP Slim & Lite was released in North America on 6th September, but was only released as part of the "Ice Silver" Daxter Entertainment Pack costing $199 rather than the $169 standalone price. There has already been a sharp increase in the number of PSP's sold with a 49% increase in sales with the week ending 8th September, seeing an additonal 18k units sold in only 2 days and with the week ending 15th September, there was a further increase of 19% with an extra 11k units sold from the previous week, seeing a total of 67k units sold for the week. Although the sales are astronomical and look very small compared to the Japanese release, we cannot forget that the only PSP Slim & Lite released in NA at the moment is the Daxter Pack. Once the standalone "Piano Black" and "Ceramic White" models are released on 1st and 9th of October respectively, we should see a much larger increase is sales.
Well in Japan, we have seen the biggest impact of the new PSP release. Crisis Core was released on September 13th along with a special edition PSP Slim & Lite. Only 77,777 units were made and released and as far as we know, all or virtually all of them sold on the first day. The official release date of the Slim & Lite in all colours was on 20th September and Japan has gone PSP crazy. Buying up 130k in the first day alone and approx. 265k over the week. Obviously we are not sure what the impact will be in Japan over the course, but I'm sure sales of the PSP will be esculated higher than they were before the release.
Overall, since the Slim & Lite's release worldwide in all it's differene versions has seen a huge 380% increase in sales over about 2 weeks (for NA and JP) and 1 week for (EU). There has been an extra 400k PSP's sold in this time frame. Although I reckon we have seen the best we can expect, sales wise in Japan. North America has yet to take off and Europe has yet to put in a full weeks worth of sales. We will know in a few weeks time, how much of an impact the Slim & Lite has really had since it's release, but going on the short range of sales we have already, it has made a huge impact overall. I also wouldn't be surprised, to see sales of the PSP take off from now until the end of the year. Even although the DS is lightyears ahead at over 50m sold worldwide. The PSP is steadily selling and this new edition of the PSP can only spur sales more. I think on a whole, the PSP will finish the year on a very strong note and as one of the strongest games machines out at the moment.
I just hope that games sales will increase as well.
