Forums - Nintendo - Voice-acting on the new Zelda game...

personally, i think there's a HUGE chance nintendo won't be able to do it right. the only companies cited for good voice acting usually focus on badass or satirical voices, which don't work with a sincere game like zelda. our image of zelda and co. will be completely botched if it's done incorrectly. even with technology today, i still vote for text (or at least billions invested into finding the perfect voices for the characters we've come to love over 20 years)

so... any thoughts? obviously link won't be given a voice, but will voice-acting enhance or ruin zelda games?

no it'll ruin the charm of the game. So I think stay as it is

it will absolutely enhance it, and if they are done like corruption i will be happy.

I dunno, other Japanese companies have done quite the bang up job, even with more serious rolls such as in Persona 3 and 4 as well as Folklore. There's certainly a chance that they'll do as well as those or better. Though their inexperience in it might hurt them you are correct.

All in all, I don't think they'll do it, don't see any reason they'd start now.

...

I think voice acting is a must for the next Zelda. Text-only is ancient, and doesn't fit with a game with high production values.

Link should remain as silent as he ever was ofcourse.

I dunno. Wait until very talented actors expect more reasonable paychecks. It'll happen eventually with the movie industry in decline as it is.

Also, if they do hire actors, they better spend a lot of money on good writers! Even a good actor can't save bad writing, and bad writing stands out more when it's spoken.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I'd like to see some well done VA for the next game.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
