well to start...attention to detail.from the tracks to how each car actually performs. gt does this far better than anyone thats why saying the pros use it is valid...before gt there was just racing games. gt is a true driving sim......I would also like to add i know nothing of forza never played. but i do know what gt offers. i asked about previous forza titles and all i got was graphics and damage nothing really crazy is there anything im missing? |
Online gameplay. That's pretty significant for a racing game, don't you think? Let me clarify also. I don't believe Forza is pushing the genre forward at all. Other sims I believe went online before Forza. However, in the vacuum argument of only comparing GT to Forza, Forza has had a lot of features, including online, damage and external customization(I'm not totally sure of this last one still, no one has refuted it yet) before they were in Gran Turismo.
I think the real problem is that what GT may offer over Forza, an increased amount of realism, simply can't be proven. Forza is close enough that a legitimate argument can be made that it's just as good. To definitively prove GT is more realistic, it would take an in depth video with explanation pitting both games against another, and that just doesn't exist. What Forza has offered is features GT has had to catch up on, and that is as black and white as it gets.
If I seem unsure of myself in some of my statements, it's because I'm not very familiar with either series. I don't like racing simulators much at all, so I can't offer too much as far as detailed info.

There have been numerous threads where people come in and explain why Forza 2 has better handling and feel. But they are useually derailed by those who claim you cannot tell how something feels unless you have really driven on a course with a "race" car (which is total bs).
I have played all but one of the GT's and every Forza game released (with a decent wheel). And to me the handling and tuning of the cars in Forza is very much superior to those of GT. Most people without an agenda will probably tell you the same thing. I think that is why a lot of the GT crowd are gob smacked by the latest look of Forza. They are afraid that now along with those qualities it has the graphics to match anything GT has.
So to sum it up, the attention to detail has always been there with the Forza series, it just didn't have the looks.
*****EDIT*****
One last point I would like to add. I obviously love the GT series as well or I wouldn't have owned most of the games for it. I just have to agree with one of the posters above and say that yes indeed GT has been playing catch up on a lot of its features. And I don't understand why some of the GT guys are so torn up over this.
If I still owned a PS3, GT 5 would be a purchase for sure, alongside Forza 3. Both of these games make each other better and without each other I am sure neither would have made as many strides as they have.

| coolestguyever said: That's such a fucking joke. We'll see when Forza 3 struggles to sell a couple million and Gran Turismo 5 is flying off shelves. Forza 3 doesn't offer anything that Gran Turismo doesn't (now that GT will have damage). Gran Turismo is no longer a bumper cars simulator thanks to damage and will solidify its spot as best racing franchise in the world. |
Best sales doesn't mean best game. You should thank MS. They cause GT5 to even have damage models.
Anyway, yes, GT4 being the last entry, I wouldn't be sure which is the "best racing franchise in the world."
It certainly is popular, though.
Unless you think the Wii is the best console in the world? Wii Play the best game?
I don't need your console war.

That argument is completely nonsensical. Forza 3 is not a "casual racing game" it is a racing simulator. What are you talking about. Explain yourself. How is Forza 3 "casual"?

NO NO, NO NO NO.
The problem i have with forza is the lack of real world tracks, realism. Also to me all the cars in forza drive more or less the same. On gt all the cars handle different. Some drive smooth some dont. Some cars turn better then others and brake better. All the car engines sound different aswell unlike forza with the recycled sounds.
GT is used by professional racers to get more used 2 certain tracks and cars.
Only people who have played GT and forza will understand what i mean
Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!
