Forums - Sony - Everything we know about FFXIV at this point.

Hello everyone, I recently came acrost a site that displays everything we know about FFXIV be it from interviews or talks with represenatives.

This is what we know:

- Confirmed to be on the Playstation 3 and PC; Square Enix is currently in discussion with Microsoft to arrange agreements for a XBOX 360 version.

- It is confirmed that Eorzea is not a world but a region in a world named Haiderin (ハイデリン).

- Tweaked versions of the current playable races in Final Fantasy XI will see themselves in Final Fantasy XIV with completely different names. Square Enix has told us to think of them as “the same actors playing different roles.”

- There will be no character transfers from Final Fantasy XI to XIV, but character names may be transferable. (Thanks SE!)

- Character development is highly stressed as a major component of the game, and will include a new and improved job system as well as a new leveling system. FFXIV’s story will also play a role in developing your character. (Don't give us just one job too play as PLEASE)

- Players will have the choice on how they want to play the game, be it soloing or party play.

- The battle system will not consist of action-based, real-time combat. Instead, it will have a more strategic and “cerebral” feel. Perfection of the battle system will be up to the beta testers next year. (Oho?)

- Nobuo Uematsu has been chosen to compose the entire soundtrack for Final Fantasy XIV. Square Enix is currently looking for an effective way to implement 5.1 channel surround-sound audio into the game. (WOOT)

- Final Fantasy XIV has been confirmed to have a storyline similar to length to what you’ve seen in previous single-player Final Fantasy titles. The developers have hinted to NPC voice acting for the game. (Voices would be EXCELLENT)

- Square Enix is trying to implement a server capacity of 6,000 users. There is currently no news on how many servers we will see from launch. (Hinting too possibly a bigger world in FFXIV then in FFXI?)

- PlayOnline will not be used for Final Fantasy XIV but the Square Enix ID system will.

- Square Enix has said that they would like to switch from a 30-day payment plan, but do not want to use micro-transaction payment as an alternative. (Thank GOD)

- Final Fantasy XI will not shut down at the launch of Final Fantasy XI and still has content planned for a year. It is “up to the players to decide” the fate of FFXI.

- Final Fantasy XIV is slated for a world-wide release in 2010, with English, German, French and Japanese versions available at launch.

- Chocobos will be more than just steads in FFXIV, but Square Enix is still deciding on what this role will be. (Possibly they could hold items?)

- Weapons will play a key role in how your character develops.

- The new Security Tokens will be used to secure Final Fantasy XIV accounts.

What are your thoughts? And please do not BASH the game because you have to pay a subscription fee.

The things I find best are: No Micro-Transactions, Possibility of Voices, and that the battle system will feel "cerebral and strategic."

In another thread, they said they're looking into cross-platform play (console users playing with PC users).

So if the game came to the 360, would that mean cross-platform play between the PS3 and 360 for the first time? That would be cool to see.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I really like the idea that it will have a storyline similar in length to a previous Final Fantasy game. And hopefully an ending as well. Story endings and the subscription fees have always been the biggest deterrent for me in playing MMO's, but maybe I'll give FFXIV a chance if it gets excellent reviews.

@thekitchensink

It wouldn't be the first time. I read FFXI is cross platform between PC, PS2, and Xbox 360. It was the first cross platform MMORPG according to wikipedia. So FFXIV will likely do the same between PC, 360 and PS3. That would be the first 360/PS3 cross platform game that I know of.

If the payment isn't steep and I can pay with my PSN wallet.... I may give it a go.... but I'm still on the fence...

I can't wait to play either.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/
