Forums - Nintendo - Event list for Mario&Sonic at Olympics posted

http://www.gametab.com/news/1053140/

There will be 20 events in total, with 18 having been revealed:

  • Fencing - Individual epee
  • Archery
  • Shooting - Skeet
  • Gymnastics - Trampoline
  • Gymnastics - Vault
  • Field - High Jump
  • Field - Pole Vault
  • Field - Long Jump
  • Field - Triple Jump
  • Field - Javelin Throw
  • Field - Hammer Throw
  • Rowing - Single Sculls
  • Table Tennis - Singles
  • Aquatics - 100m Freestyle
  • Aquatics - 4x100m Freestyle
  • Track - 110m and 400m Hurdles
  • Track - 4x100m Relay
  • Track -100m and 400m
  • Each game uses the remote and nunchuck in ways to replicate the actual events, but experimentation with the controls may lead to secret techniques that give an added boost to performance (read: waggle like crazy and something cool might happen?).

Additionally, 16 characters will be in the game, half from Mario's side and half from Sonic's. These characters will also have distinguishing playing styles; for example, Mario and Amy will be all around players, Peach and Tails will be technical, Sonic and Yoshi will lean toward speed, and Knuckles and Bowser will have extra power. The remaining characters were not revealed.

And finally, some new game modes were revealed, including Single Match mode, where you can play any individual event to compete for the top score; Circuit mode, where you can create a custom series of events (or choose a pre-determined or random series) with an overall top score; Mission mode, with specific challenges within events; and finally an area with historical Olympics information, such as a gallery, trivia quizzes, and other unspecified mini-games.

Looks about right to me. The only thing the game is missing (and I really wanted) is online game support. Boo on Sega/Ninty for not adding it.

That would be the part I love the most.

It is really a nice feature, I wish they did that with many games like the WWII games.

    i thought it had online.

    @Konnichiwa, I agree

I know for a lot of people they just buy the game for the game, but if I like a game its nice to learn more about it and this is one of the reasons I absolutely love the Brothers In Arms series, they actually show the pictures of the locations from back in WW2 and they show the pictures from what it looked like when their team was there. And if you unlock the extras you can read the after action reports filed by troops that are the exact missions you found yourself playing through in the game.

It really helps connect everything together and give the whole thing more meaning. I especially appreciate the fact that it puts the violence in context. Don't get me wrong I enjoy some good video game violence every now and then but given the choice I prefer it have purpose or reason to it.

Anyways, this game looks like it is shaping up pretty well and some of those events look pretty interesting. I have never really played any of these olympic video games in the past, perhaps somebody could comment on the number of events? It seems like a long list but there are plenty more events at the actual olympics so I am not sure how this compares to past games.

PS - I am looking forward to Mario & Sonic @ the Winter Olympics for some badass snowboarding and skiiing goodness!

    To Each Man, Responsibility

If you check IGN they actually have screenshots showing the stats on the two title characters so you can see how the attributes are broken out. Unfortunately they give no clue on what exactly they mean but it definetly looks like they charge a premium for really high attributes.

Their are more events normally in real life (The current Olympic Games program includes 35 sports and nearly 400 events.)
