There will be 20 events in total, with 18 having been revealed:

Fencing - Individual epee

Archery

Shooting - Skeet

Gymnastics - Trampoline

Gymnastics - Vault

Field - High Jump

Field - Pole Vault

Field - Long Jump

Field - Triple Jump

Field - Javelin Throw

Field - Hammer Throw

Rowing - Single Sculls

Table Tennis - Singles

Aquatics - 100m Freestyle

Aquatics - 4x100m Freestyle

Track - 110m and 400m Hurdles

Track - 4x100m Relay

Each game uses the remote and nunchuck in ways to replicate the actual events, but experimentation with the controls may lead to secret techniques that give an added boost to performance (read: waggle like crazy and something cool might happen?).

Additionally, 16 characters will be in the game, half from Mario's side and half from Sonic's. These characters will also have distinguishing playing styles; for example, Mario and Amy will be all around players, Peach and Tails will be technical, Sonic and Yoshi will lean toward speed, and Knuckles and Bowser will have extra power. The remaining characters were not revealed.

And finally, some new game modes were revealed, including Single Match mode, where you can play any individual event to compete for the top score; Circuit mode, where you can create a custom series of events (or choose a pre-determined or random series) with an overall top score; Mission mode, with specific challenges within events; and finally an area with historical Olympics information, such as a gallery, trivia quizzes, and other unspecified mini-games.

 

Looks about right to me. The only thing the game is missing (and I really wanted) is online game support. Boo on Sega/Ninty for not adding it.
