Forums - Sales - EA sees 500k Motion+ bundles Golf and Tennis're serious bussinies

Yes Nintendo gave EA 500,000 motion plus to bundle with the Tiger Woods 10 and Grand Slam game. It's bad or good I don't know

Additionally, Sebastian thinks that the Wii may get a lift from a cross-marketing campaign from EA/Nintendo. "EA announced a cooperative marketing program with Nintendo (Pushing Play), building off of the expected momentum from upcoming bundles of Tiger Woods and Grand Slam Tennis with the Wii MotionPlus controller. According to EA, Nintendo is providing 500k MotionPlus units for these games, after which they will be sold as stand-alone skus."

Now the big question. Is Nintendo going to re-stock EA after those 500k, or that all?

Is that going to be enough?

It just depends how long they are going to bundle it. But remember the key word is give. EA can always BUY it from them too. What I interpret from this wording is that EA has been given some to help get supply up at first while they can still buy them from Ninty to put in bundles. Remember it's an open market and they can buy them directly from them as well.

But I don't know if that interpretation is correct yet.

its not enough. Im buying GS next week coz i cannot be bothered waiting on WSR.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

@ Zucas - give doesn't necessarily imply that there was no cost.

Which is why I didn't know if the interpretation is correct.  Read the entire post next time.

Haha, it's true that you did have all your bases covered

I always try to.

If there is more consumer interest in the EA bundles than in the standalone Motion Plus units, I am sure Nintendo will make more available. I doubt they are out to dick EA over and only have WSR bundles when that game launches. They will have Red Steel 2 bundles out after WSR afterall.

Of course Nintendo did not simply "give" EA the units and let EA pocket an extra $10 in profit from the titles which retail for $60. EA will, I assume, actually take a bit of a hit on profit per title, and Nintendo will take a hit on profit per WM+, but they both need to do it because their products need each other. I am sure that the size of a WM+ and a game boxed seperately is bigger than when packaged together though, so they do get to cut the distributor and the retailler out a little bit anyways.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

The main thing I'm trying to get across is that this is just the early shipment. I mean unless EA is wanting to keep it a limited time deal, they can always buy more when needed. I wouldn't think Ninty would block them from buying it... that's bad for business.
