Forums - Nintendo - RUMOR: Bioshock coming to Wii and DS?!

A direct port to the Wii ??? Not going to happen, or will look pretty bad IMO, the Wii is great but it just doesn´t heve the power for the U3 engine, it just wouldn´t look good, better to build a game from scratch anyway.

There's been a discussion of this before, and I believe the conclusion was that the U3 Engine could be ported to the Wii with a bit of difficulty.

Either way, it definitely wouldn't look as good, and it might even end up being downright ugly. Ports from higher-end systems to lower-end systems last gen were pretty bad (see: Max Payne 1 & 2 on Xbox v. PS2). We'll just have to wait and see.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

You do realize that this is just an analyst saying this and not anyone in any affiliated with Take 2 right? The analyst just sees that Bioshock was a hugely popular game and other people might like it too and that is all. He doesn't have any inside info. he probably hasn't read the interview saying that Biosock is going to stay a 360 exclusive. He only thinks that the game would sell well on the other systems and that's why he said this. He is in fact an idiot (as are most analysts).

Just to give you another reason to get a Wii

Bioshock was initially a PC game using the Unreal 2.5 engine (used in Red Steel).
After 2K took over as the publisher and purchased the Irrational, the engine was upgraded to UE 3.0 and the 360 was announced as the lead platform.

Releasing a port for the Wii would not make much sense, however a spin off for the Wii would sell better. A lot of the assets created using Unreal 2.5 could be ported over for the Wii version.

I dont see why 2K cannot release a version of Bioshock for the Wii. Bioshock would make a great turn based crpg game, with the dual screens and touch interface.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>

Cel-shaded.

I think its highlely unlikely as well, the Wii just doesn't have the processing/GPU power to make the game look like the developers want it to look.

I believe there is a Wii port of the UT3 engine.  If that's true, porting Bioshock over would be reasonably easy.  You'd have to decrease textures, of course, and also geometric complexity, but aside from some of those things the core game could still be ported over at a fraction of the cost of developing from scratch.

To PS3 i can believe that, to Wii well its not impossible just inprobable,to DS dont make me laugh.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

Well, many people were surprised to find out that Bioshock runs smoothly on their PC's which don't have high-end graphics cards. It even runs on my other PC, with outdated radeon 9800pro (i had to apply the shader 2.0 mod)

If wii can have similar performance running at 480p as 9800Pro running at, let's say, 1024x768, then it's more than a viable option to port Bioshock to wii. Altho i think it ain't gonna happen.

But i'm sure a nice implementation of Unreal Engine 3 will be made for wii, because it would just be illogical not to, considering the current and predicted install base and that many games are going to use UE 3

.

Perhaps he meant sequel or spin-off of Bioshock, not original Bioshock. At least he talked about Bioshock's franchise potential. I doubt it would make sense to have Bioshock on PS3 and Wii in 2009 when it's 2 year old. You could even make a sequel by then.
