Forums - Sony - PSP Go Reception by VGC Community Members

It's still nice to have a permanent hard copy of media, though after I lost my Chains of Olympus UMD, I've started to rethink my attachment to physical media -- stuff does get lost, after all.

Ideally, Sony or their partners need to (1) provide affordable storage solutions, e.g. a 32 gig memory stick for less than $49/49EUR, enough to store 15-20 major games and hundreds of casual games, and (2) give consumers some of the benefits of saving on retail, i.e. keep downloads affordable.

Well, I've always been an advocate of DLC.

I can understand where people come from with the whole "I wanna keep the box" mindset. But I much prefer digital collections, they can be neater, better organised, have more information, and a great layout, and they don't get muddled up or have any wear-and-tear.

I'm buying a PSP for Persona, MGS and a few older games and it won't be a Go!

@Rainbird

no it isn't......you still didn't get my point on GO!

I am saying there's no point to it & SONY didn't learn from past mistakes, they are making the SAME errors again & again.

you should see that

That's your opinion. It could be called biased.

Really though, they are still supporting the 3k, so UMDs won't go away. DD is for someone who likes having all of their games on the system itself, and they won't have to worry about dragging a bunch of UMDs around (which isn't that big of a deal). The GO will have all the same games as the 3k, unless Sony lied when they said they'd bring all of the previous games to the PS store. The only mistake I see with it is the price.

I'm kind of interested in it. The lack of UMD is worrying though when it comes to game prices and such, but that should help it's size and battery life.

However, the biggest problem with it would have to be the price. If I had the money, I'd much rather opt to spend $150-170 (whatever the standalone and bundle prices are) of a previous PSP instead.

Hacking it is also something to look at. Not necessarily for stealing new PSP games, but I think that having a portable emulator would make for a great companion on the Go(!). I wonder how long it'll take the modding community to crack the PSP Go.

Too expensive. Well, I think the old psp is too expensive as well. Portables should top out at $100 us.

No removable battery is going to curtail custom firmware, and emulation of older systems, making it pretty unattractive to me. I like being able to play older games on handhelds.

No decent mechanism to transfer UMDs the PSP go. Yes, sony has announced a "good will program" for legacy users which is a good thing. Honestly though, this has to be some sort of new occurance where the format that defined a system (umd) is completely incompatible with a system revision. I understand that it would hard to have a transfer device and protect it from people transfering rented/borrowed games, but that doesn't make it any less crappy that UMDs are completely obsolete for GO owners.

Looks like a slick device overall, but I haven't ever been interested in a PSP so the PSP Go hasn't done anything to entice me to buy one. I like the digital distribution push, but for $249 (or anywhere near that price) they can keep it. Have there been any reports on battery life on the PSP Go? 4-6 hours or whatever the PSP 3k gets is completely unacceptable for a handheld.

Well, that's your opinion, and like insomniac17 pointed out, bias.

In my opinion, your OP in that thread is quite wrong, which just shows what my bias is.

@insomniac

thank god they are still supporting 3000, or PSP sales would've had a terrible drop.

I agree, the price is just terrible for the GO. But yes, the 3k will help keep PSP sales from plummeting. ^_^
