I love DQ series but I seriously think your estimate for DQ9 and MH3 are way too high...

 

MH I am expecting about 1.5-2M lifetime, as for DQ I think 5 is a reasonable even if it is a bit high. DQVIII was 4M in japan, I think a DS version could exceede this. I would say between 4-5m is a fine guess.

I have always said that it would be a huge disappointment for SE if DQ9 does not sell at least 4 million units. So your expectation is about the same as mine.

However, I think MH3 would creak 1 millions lifetime but not much more. Since only Wii Sports and Wii Fit has sold over 3 million units this gen, I think 3 millions for MH3 is just way too high.

Even if WSR and WF+ "only" sell 1 million each in Japan, they would still be considered success.

You have no idea what the gaming press and the even shitter "gaming press" from site like Yahoo and shit expect from those two games. Peopel expect those games sales to explode if they sell only 1 million more trolling/flaming and Wii is doomed threads will appear major shit talking all around.

I dont expect too much from either of those at least in Japan but also think Others and NA wont flock to them.

I think Rei has a point. Those look like total sales over time. MH is already a proven evergreen title on PSP...and I think it will follow a slow burn to a couple million over time on wii. This means it will not cause Wii sales to spike, but might increase it's weekly average over time. The same may be true for Dq9. I dont expect multiple millions by the end of the year...but lifetime will be very significant.

As for FF13, I can see it selling a million in japan by years end...maybe 1.5, but it's going to have minimal effect on console sales. 1 reason I think this is because it's being released during a high demand period and the HW spike will be significant already. Another is that FF13 will release on a system with only 3.2 million install base in Japan.

The ports to DS sold close to 1 million first week......
DQ9 is the only confirmed title I can say is gonna be huge and will beat FFXIII.

I think the miscommunication is that you think we are saying 1 million+ all games and huge sales spikes. At the very least thats not what Im saying. These games are gonna give Wii noticable bump in HW and SW sales and continue doing that for a few months.

I know the amazing lineup PS3 has coming up but its no point listen them in this thread since a lot are western and the other great japanese ones arent going to help PS3/Sony.

well, the thing is, BIG games are very different in the Asian market, for example, they don't see inFamous or KZ2 being big, something like Heavy Rain or RPGs in general would be more to their liking, or some kind of platformer or linear action games(driving included.) GoW3 is very bloody and foul so they tend to not sale as well over there either. just a thing.

the thing with portables is that they are supposed to be cheaper, if the price is rising so much, pretty soon people won't be able to afford those either especially when the economy is absolute shit in Japan.
