Well, after the announcement of MH3 bundle with black wii and the red dsi Nintendo has won Japan for the year. I don't think there really can be any argument now. Lets take a look at what is coming that will impact the Japenese market for both Sony and Nintendo:
Nintendo:
MH3 Bundles
Black Wii
Red dsi (on dqix day)
DQIX
WSR bundle
NSMB Wii
Sony:
FFXIII (maybe bundle?)
PSP Go!
GTPSP
After looking at the list it is pretty obvious that Nintendo has the better sellers. DQ games sell better than FF games, and with the red dsi releasing on the same day it is almost like a bundle. Coupled with new color, which will increase dsi sales for at leas a few weeks on it own this is a massive win. FFXIII may have a bundle, but unless it has a new color it will fall short of the DQ push. Even with a new color it will.
MH3 is a wild card, but it is now apparent Nintendo is taking this game very seriously. The new wii color coupled with the bundles will increase the sales past what would have already occured. Like the dsi, the new color will continue to keep the hardware higher that it normally would fall back to. Also, WSR will have an effect for a few months; this will coincide with MH3. Lastly, NSMB will sell tons of copies as local multiplayer and 2d mario sell like hotcakes in japan.
As for the psp go, this will be dead on arrival. A new sku that costs more than a console is not good news as well as the fact it only does DD. DD is not big in Japan and they really don't like it. I cannot see this system making any type of impact.
Nintendo has set itself up for a big year and I cannot see anything that Sony tries comparing.
