Forums - Nintendo - Mario should be bundled from now on

Why should Nintendo give up sales of a game by bundling it?

It is not like all those interested are not going to buy the NSMBW. And it is not like Wii sales are doing poorly compared to the other consoles.

Nintendo is a company and it makes decisions to make money and it generally makes the right decisions. It has not had to layoff/declare redundant thousands of employees like the large corporations that compete with it in video games. So I think I will trust its judgment here.

Personally, I would not be surprised if Wii Sports Resort becomes the next bundled game before the holiday season -- which would put WM+ in each new buyers' hands.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

The last console to have a bundled game at launch was Super Nintendo.
You can even go back and watch old E3 when Nintendo talked about Wii sports being bundled for confirmation or Wiki it but having been old enough to be there all along I know.
Handhelds are a different story but Gameboy the original was launched with Tetris as a bundle.
DS is was the Metroid Hunters demo.

I think if Nintendo wanted to still do the Wii bundle is offer a couple sku's,one with the newer Wii Sports resort with WM+ and the other with NSMBWii,I won't get into the black wii yet or other possible colours.

At some point they will have to switch out Wii sports for Wii sports resort with WM+ packed in as more games start using it,since many consumers may go home with a system and lets say pick up a WM+ only game but is unaware it needs it despite it saying on the box(trust me so many people buy things oblivious about the product they buy) then come back angry wondering why it won't work wanting money back.

Just common sense and the sooner the better.

This holiday's bundle will probably be Wii (as-is) with WSR/WM+ all in one box for like $299 or something.

The N64 in the US was not bundled with Mario 64 at launch, other regions? other times? I do not know.

I did some more looking around, I could not find a single picture of a Manufacturers bundle with Mario 64.  I am not saying you didn't get one but I am saying it was probably a retailer's bundle.

It will probably see a bundle in Japan but it's still selling so well in the US, why would they want to do a value-added bundle... unless they have plenty of stock for the holidays AND need to make room for new skus or colors.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Now that Wii Sports is failing to sell every single Wii which Nintendo can manufacture, more bundles isn't a bad idea. I think a Wii Fit bundle might be more successful, though.

Because Wii Sports is arguably the more popular game. People will want wii sports regardless of whether it comes with the system or not. It has that name recognition and it's based around stuff that adults like, and it's superficial. Plus it will help sell additional controllers.

If, like that other thread about disruption, Nintendo wants to capture the entire market, they will need to offer NSMB bundled, simply for the fact that it has a higher saturation if bundled, which equals stronger connection.

Right now, wii sports is synonymous with the wii. People think of the little mii's when they think of Nintendo. (not people like me of course, but the expanded audience). The problem is, mii's don't have personality save for the personality that the gamer gives them. That paints the wii as "sterile" (no pun intended).

Putting WM+ in a new bundle gives added value through variety, but it does not encourage M+ adoption. It's just different. There will be no difference between a person who bought a wii for wii sports and wii fit and a couple mini-games titles, and the person who did the same but got WSR instead. That is truely a lost sale.
