Forums - Gaming - Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott a day after E3 Day 1

I'm still getting Left 4 Dead 2. More guns, more Zombies, more levels....I'm there.

Yeah, I don't understand the decision either.

No, and because we dont fully know the specifics of L4D2 yet I will wait before I start boycotting anything. Valve is one of my favorite developers, and I want to see what the game has in store.

The new setting looks off because they seemed to go with a more "Day of the Dead" type approach with a daylight setting. This brings more color, but could make the game less intense then the darker settings in the first (we shall see). A new setting is welcome in my eyes though.
I am very excited for the idea of new campaigns, weapons, and settings.

I know we want to pretend that this is about fans, more free content, and building on a stellar title with additional expansions ect.......however, as with anything in this business, it unfortunately, revolves around the $$$$$$. So releasing a second game in the series is......in a way.....chicken shit approach to avoiding the "We will always give our games free new content" without lying to fans after the fact. That will always sting, but is becoming the norm it seems these days.......from all developers, so boycotting, what may turn out to be an amazing game, will not happen for me that is.

Again, how often has boycotting worked? The last big one was DMC4 right? Sold extremely well on the 360 and PS3 together.

I think Left 4 Dead 2 is a bit early yes, but if it makes them money why not? Valve can do whatever they damned please, and It's not like the first time a company has made empty promises. I'll be buying it eventually, Left 4 Dead was a great game and never got old for me.

If they go next year in the holiday season it will be much worst for them to go against a entirely new Halo which will eat most of 360 shooters sales next year not named Call of Duty. So if they don't release this fall they'll have to release in spring.

Before you say "Well Halo ODST is out this fall..." that is true, but from what I gather Halo Reach is a prequel to the main series and will be entirely new. It will generate the same if not more sales then Halo 3 launch wise.

It's just that simple.

Hmmmm... they can either keep patching a game with minimal changes every few months, or make a new game each year that compiles lots of changes and enhancements.

I guess I don't see where the problem is as either approach works for me.

I do agree that just 1 year later does seem a bit early, but what if L4D 1 was just a trial for them in hopes of releasing a much better, more advanced, longer, et all game based on the feedback? If that be the case I'm glad I could help.

And seriously, how often do mass amounts of people play games online a year after they release? The only ones I can think of are scarce, especially on consoles.

Also, CoD has yearly releases that only minimally change the games, and do we boycott them?

COD is a bad example because there are two developers making the games. One developer which is lazy and one that is productive. This is why COD WAW sucks compared to COD4 and MW2.

Sports games can't be included in the argument either because the developers have to adjust rosters, add new player models, do minimal graphical updates, and some other things. This is what is expected of them.

This is a Valve game. Valve games are meant to take a while and be supported for a long time. Each game is expected to receive a good an all around boost in all categories from gameplay to graphics. What is the difference between L4D and L4D2? truly not very much. Only 5 new campaigns? come now for $50 I expect it to have 10 at least. 20 weapons? err.. ok? new enemies? a half breed between an infected and tank isnt a good new enemy. I want something that actually takes time. Maybe give us real boss enemies like in RE.

The amount of content is a complete joke. If we received half of this as add-ons for L4D it would be a great thing but making a new game out of what was announced is quite unimpressive.

L4D2 should have easily been equal to Crysis on medium graphically if they actually spent time to work on the game properly.

Valve listens to its fans typically so I would not be shocked if either by the time L4D2 is released we get 70% of the content it has for L4D or L4D2 is pushed back and L4D given some nice new content.

I'm a little bit confused ssj. What would you prefer they do?

Vaalve clearly can't devote the entire team to doing nothing but making dlc. They would then run at a loss on the game. So they have to make another game. If they work on an the sequel, then they can take some of those ideas and put them into the first as dlc

Why did you put this in the news article to begin with? That's not news nor an opinion piece, just ranting.

because a ton of other news sites are reporting it? shacknews and many many others. I had a very well written news piece and its gone now.

sorry... just got done reading Left 4 Dead news articles on Shacknews, saw nothing about them boycotting the game, or upset over the release for that matter.. can you supply a link please..

If this site wants to get recognized as a review site, leaving boycotts out of a news section is the way to go..

I mean, if a ton of other news sites jumped off a bridge, would you follow?

I've been playing L4D almost every other day sense it came out, and I must say I got my moneys worth 10/fold..

no what they should have done is when the developers choose to do the L4D sequel made sure that they focused on DLC for the original and had them focus on improving every aspect of the game with a release window of fall 2010. You have to realize that L4D is still selling well and making them a ton of profit. Releasing free DLC would not affect a thing.

Bawwwww!

Oh, well. You'll find a way to play it, I'm sure. Just like you will with EA games, or whatever it was you threatened to pirate.
