Speaking to gaming blog VG247 Xbox product honcho Aaron Greenberg has said that Final Fantasy XIV will not be released exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

This is in contradiction to what Sony boss Jack Tretton said on stage at the Sony press briefing yesterday.

"My understanding is that that is not exclusive," Greenberg said. "I know that we have a great relationship with [Square]. They provided a number of big titles, including some exclusives like Star Ocean, along with having FFXIII demoed on Xbox 360."

Meanwhile in another room at the Square press conference the company said that they are considering more platforms for the game, including the Xbox 360.

The plot thickens. Let's see what Sony have to say. All a bit embarrassing really.

Tretton didnt say it's an exclusive.

He said that the PS3 will be the only console you'll be able to play the game on when it launches in 2010. And so it will happen. He worded it very carefully.

I'm pretty sure he said exclusive like 3 times.

What Rei said, the game get some time frame exclusivity which is absolutely retarded for any game. Make a game exclusive for good or don't make another install base suffer. I wonder how much that time frame of exclusivity will help the PS3 simply because it is an MMORPG and being a couple months behind is not a big thing.

no he just said once......PS3 will be the only console to have it in 2010 at launch.

he expressed it as "play exclusively iin 2010" which means 2011 the Xbox 36o0 can get the game. Basically timed exclusive.

He said exactly what I wrote. Watch teh conference at IGN - 1:15:00 - Tretton doesnt use the word "exclusive" even once when he talks about XIV.

As soon as I heard the words come out of tretton's mouth I knew it was never going to be a permanent console exclusvie. Just like the way MGS:R was presented at the MS conference.
