Forums - Microsoft - Final Fantasy XIV NOT PS3 exclusive?

I could be wrong about needing XBOX LIVE as well as the sub fee for the MMO, but thats what I've been told by actual 360 subscribers. They could possibly be just ill informed(much to their dismay).

@Gnizmo
Uh...I know that XI came out on 360, but it didn't do to well at all. My thoughts on this was that it was probably due to the double fee(partially corrected by heruaman, who gives some facts on it not actually requiring Gold Memb.). And I say it did challenge WOW only because very FEW subscription based MMORPGs with actual depth and high level graphics survive. Only MMO's I have ever heard of actually keeping up was Everquest and FFXI. This is not to say that they have even grazed WOW's success, just that in comparison to all the failures they have done quite well. It is a very similar situation to the PSP and DS. DS has PSP by a mile, but PSP is the ONLY handheld to EVER survive against the mighty Nintendo Handheld brand. FFXI is PSP as WOW is to DS.

2 charts to demonstrate what I am talking about. First the one that shows WoW, Lineage, Lineage 2, and Runsescape against FFXI and every other MMO above 200k. http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html FFXI is doing well for itself, but no it is not in any way shape or form competing with WoW. Thats like saying you or I could compete in a pro football match. It is just kind of embarassing to compare the two.

http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html Second chart. See that sharp dive? Thats WoW. It launched right in that range and tanked every other MMOs subscription base. Mopped the floor with them. Notice that the 4 super large MMOs from the last graph aren't on here because they are in a completely different league in terms of popularity. FFXI was a highly successful MMO, but nothing note worth in terms of success. It was briefly the top dog of the Western style of MMO but now it is hardly even a foot note.

Unless Square Enix is blantantly posting wrong information on this matter, I'd say your buddies are lying about NEEDING XBL Gold.  I'm not saying they don't have XBL Gold, they just don't need it to play a MMO.  The reason WHY M$ charges a fee for XBL is because they incur the cost to maintian the system...all the developer needs to do is bring their stuff to plug in...it's painless.  With MMO, all M$ provides is to tag your account for possible Achievements.  I'd be very surprise if you needed a XBL Gold account for this, or any other MMO.

You don't need a Gold account to play an MMO on Live. I have several people on my friend's list that can attest to this. Some of them have Gold for the other games they play while 3 or 4 only play FFXI and have silver accounts.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Although it may not be necessary to have a Gold account while playing an MMO on live...still, Many people WILL be subscribers to XBOX Live Gold. Whether you need it for FFXI or not, if you play ANY OTHER multiplayer game you ARE paying that fee, so really it doesn't even matter if it is required for FFXI(or FFXIV in the future).

Hard Drives also are not mandatory with the most popular 360 model. An MMO will assuredly require an install of some sort (FFXI has a 9.5gb install for 360). Who knows what FFXIV will demand. That means any 360 owner lacking a harddrive will need to go purchase one. thats 70 bucks plus, not including the fact u have to pay for the game(60bones), pay for Gold Live if you had any other MP games(50 a year, I highly doubt all who want FFXIV are going to cancel their GOld memb. JUST for it), and then the monthly fee.

All of this equals a gamer paying more charges if they want to play FFXIV, when they could be playing it for much less.

This could be the strongest reason for FFXIV being PS3/PC exclusive...

Okay...this is were things diverge...I THOUGHT the topic was one of FF XI and other MMO cost models for XBL, not some general rant about having to pay for XBL Gold membership?  I, and MILLIONS of other players have no problem paying the $40 bucks a year for it, so this is a complete apple and oranges discussion.

Why do ppl insist on calling FFXIV PS3/PC exclusive? No such thing as that two different platforms thus making it multiplat,And you don't need gold to play MMO's on the 360(PSU and FFXI are the example) you JUST need to pay a fee  that is all,Some ppl are so misinformed

LOL...All I did was go to the official site...you'd think it would have been the first stop to get the ground truth.  The darn internet just foils the arguments of fanboys at times....aaaargh!

I bet SE will see how FFXIII sells on 360 compared to PS3 (taking Japan sales out of the equation to balance it). If 360 sales are pretty good compared to PS3, then I bet they'll announce XIV for 360 as well.

Why should they remove Japan's sales to make it fair???   If thats the case then they should also remove America's sales to make it even more fair since the 360 and PS3 are almost neck and neck in EU.   Right?????

because cero , 0, nada, not a single copy of FF13 will be sold in japan for 360, because is a PS3 exclusive in japan, it wont come out for the 360 in japan at all

This woukld almost be a compelling case on its own. Unfortunately SE already released a MMO for the game despite that so none of it really matters.

because to say that means....

Gear of War

Halo1

Mass Effect

Halo2

Left4 Dead

as well as a ton of other 360 games are not exclusive but multiplat which some just dont want to face. What I don't get is why there is such a double standard for the Console/PC split. If it's 360 and PC its "exclusive", if a game s PS3 and PC it is not? MS doesn't own all computers in the world(just a very large sum).

I dont care whether it is or isnt, I just hate the flipfloping to benefit one's own bias(for either side).
