Forums - Microsoft - Possible reasons why the 360 doesn't have a web browser.

But this is Facebook straight to your TV! You get to browse and view pictures and all that jazz without all the annoying ads! And you can take in game screen caps and post directly to Facebook in some upcoming games!

I agree, a browser is not needed, but if all you want is to check facebook in between a quick gaming session, this is very convenient. Also, it makes sharing stuff like photos and videos from facebook with the whole family a lot easier.

I dunno. I think it's even more useless than a web browser on a console.

For most people, their PC is no more than a 10 second walk from their console. I'm sure we'd all agree that it's much easier to use Facebook on a computer than it is anywhere else.

Being able to order pizza from my 360 would be convienient too... but the phone is just a few steps away.

And getting up to manual change the channel is just 2 steps away.  And getting up to go get food is a 5 second walk.

Gamers are lazy.  Anything they can manage to do without having to get up is a benefit to them.

If you want to use the excuse that they can just "get up and go to another location to do something" then you must also see how swapping discs should be no problem.

I'm not saying it would be easier.  We don't know the full details, but from what I saw, just browsing facebook and viewing large pictures and things seems much easier and very convenient to do from your 360.  Typing out long messages may not be unless you hookup a keyboard or that chat pad thing.

Most big name pizza places now offer online ordering, by the way, so ordering pizza through a console would just need a browser, or in the case of a 360, another simple application (but that would be overdoing it).  I'm just saying that people are lazy and would rather continue staying in the same spot they are in than move to a different location to access the same stuff.

Its because console browsing is as fun as living with herpes.

Even when I had a PS3, I mostly used its browser to check xbox.com and see if any of my freinds are playing halo...

There really is no need for a browser on a console, its the most pointless thing ever, and yes if it ever does come to the Xbox 360, I will still think its the most pointless thing ever.

Yes, but accessing facebook.. that's a feature you simply can't live without

right ?

I don't take issue with swapping discs at all. But you must, with the stance you're taking with this, no?

I realize people are lazy, but getting up to change the channel is much different than that of getting online to check your email, browsing the internet, or checking facebook.

In our lifetime, we've never had to manually change channels on a television. It's a convienience we've never lived without. Conversely, we still often frequent our computers regardless of having internet access on phones or through our consoles. I'm simply saying, having facebook on a console is just as, or even more, useless as having a internet browser. Both are absurd. I can appreciate lazy, but are we so lazy as to have Facebook/browser so immediately available to us regardless that we will inevitably go to our computer sometime later.

It should probably be noted that I'm a bit stubborn when it comes to technology conveniencing us too much - I still refuse to get a cell phone

Edit: Honestly, I could care less that they have added it, if people will use it then its obviously not useless, but to claim one is more warranted more than the other simply because you consider it a better convenience is just silly.

If it is as simple and convenient and streamlined as a custom ap, sure it's a great thing.

All you have to do is jump to the dashboard, check facebook quick, then jump right into gaming again.  No walking or booting up the PC or anything like that involved.

I'm actually more excited for the 1080p instant on, last.fm stuff, netflix browsing now, all before Facebook, but I can see how it would be nice and simple to check from my 360 if I'm already on it, and easier than using it had there just been a browser added.

Lol, I too find these things a bit excessive.  Don't get me wrong.  I would much rather not be lazy, but there are still an incredible amount of people who really are this lazy.

And I don't have an issue with disc swapping, I just figured I'd make sure your stance was neutral on that subject as well.

I'm not on facebook and yes I think its pointless. Didn't expect that answer did you?

How about:
"Controlling the environment with their own proprietary software"?

The same reason why no 3rd party peripherals work.

M$ always uses one monopoly to sell tons of associated stuff.

Haha... very excessive. I certainly believe you though, that people are that lazy. I'm a teacher, I see it every day.

Features are never a "big deal" when you don't have them...

Did you even read the OP??

Not referring to the OP, but rather to some of the other responses in this thread. I think what the OP said complete sense
