Forums - Nintendo - Article: "Nintendo Bombs At E3" (Business Insider)

The funny thing about asking "who won E3" is that usually the company that is declared "the winner" is usually the company the loser in the area it counts most. Sales. I remember during the N64 days Nintendo would always bring the noise, but that never manifested itself in any meaningful way against the PS1. Not a knock on the N64 as it was home to some of the greatest games ever created and the greatest game of all time..you know the one involving an Ocarina. But yeah. that's my two cents.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

This is the second article I've seen like this and both were full of bullshit. Nintendo had the only good conference. MS and Sony were running around like chicken's with their heads cut off.

Wii has been dominating for nearly 3 years. Shouldn't these people be past denial and onto the next step by now?

yet another impromptu article. looks like journalists can't wait to jump on the next big thing. Oh well, I'm glad they've found the new "doomed" thing. Ps3 gets a much deserved break.

Mario Galaxy was a relative flop was it?

This article is an epic fail.

Stupid article. I was at 5 press conferences and NIntendo's was one of the best. Galaxy 2, Super Mario Bros Wii, Metroid, Wii Fit Plus, etc etc.

I did hear people complaining about the conference saying "All we saw was Mario Mario Mario! My 7 year old nephew plays Mario." But they obviously aren't Nintendo fans. Nintendo isnt the company to make games like Halo, Gears of War, etc.

Nintendo shows casual = Nintendo is doomed

Nintendo shows core = Nintendo is doomed.

Tough gig.

As far as I'm concerned, the second you have to explain yourself with "I'm a Nintendo fanboy" you've clearly lost all credibility. No you're not a Nintendo fanboy, stop pretending to be.

Agree with the OP completely, it was exactly my analysis of their show.

Then again - I don't think they really care (about E3) anymore. They care about sales, and will have the top sellers (again) this Xmas...

shams!

I know you're disappointed with Nintendo's E3, but come on.  Look at what you're "agreeing completely with":
--Mario Sunshine was a failure as a sequel to a Gamecube Mario game.
--NSMBWii is practically a port of NSMB.
--WM+ is in danger of being "stillborn" despite WSR and third party games
--WSR is a disappointment because Spirit Tracks had a longer line and people were playing with frisbees

Are you sure that was "exactly" what you got out of the show?

Ok, you caught me out on this ;)

I only scanned the article - didn't deep-dive - so it probably includes things I disagree with.

 - Sunshine was a good game, but in some ways it was a failure. I definitely felt it was disappointing, while still being a great game. Its one of the reasons the GC never exploded in sales.

 - I was *very* critical of NSMB Wii - but then I saw some of the extra screens they *didn't* show, and that sort-of changed my opinion. I still wonder if it was a 'quick dev' reaction to dropping Wii sales in Japan - if NSMB Wii doesn't sell... nothing will. I still think it could have been more creative/different - online 4 players anyone? - but amazingly, the Wii has a real shortage of 2D (original) titles. In some ways I see this as 'LBP' for the Wii, in a Mario universe. Its bound to do amazingly well you would think - SMB is still one of the best (playing) games ever made.

 - WM+, completely disagree. I think its going to be the Wii launch all over again. Its going to be HUGE.

 - If I was at E3, I'd rather be playing Spirit Tracks ;). We get WSR soon, but not Spirit Tracks. And WSR doesn't leave much to the imagination - its just a better WiiSport + Wiimote.

Now, if RedSteel II was at Nintys booth - that is another story ;). That is my #1 anticipated title this year - it looks amazing, and should be awesome with WM+.

The conference was one for the fans I think. It was the fans that were disappointed last year and guess what? It was the fans that loved it this year!

They also showed off WM+ and it looks great! The expanded audience are going to eat up Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus and also New Super Mario Bros. Wii not to mention everything else coming like Mario & Sonic and Your Shape among other things.
