Forums - Sony - This is how sony could support their motion technology properly.

Sony said that what we saw was just a prototype. All will be fine, in the end. I'm not worried.

Without neglecting the rest of their consumer base ofcourse.

It's quite simple.

Have two control schemes set up for each game. I know it might take a little ekstra development time, but sonys able to do it since it's their developers.

So it would have the game detect if you're using a wand with the cam when starting up, or the dualshock and adjust to either using the motion controls or the regular controls (and sixaxis)

Atleast that's what i hope they'll decide to do :P

So you mean like how Ravving Rabbids TV Party detects if you have a Balance Board?

Doesn't that leave you producing games that never truely take advantage of the strenghts of either controller, and are designed around the weaknesses of both controllers?

why is that ? a fps could work fine either way you know.

So every game is a FPS?

There are probably a couple of games where it would work out well, but the more you actually take advantage of a motion controller the less it would actually work on a conventional controller. Consider a tennis game where the challenge is based on a (semi) realistic replication of the game, and you have to accurately place the ball in the court with appropriate power and "out-play" your competition. As a result you couldn't come close to replicating the complexity of the game using buttons so one version of the game must suffer ...

Basically, any time the motion controlls would be a meaningful addition to the game it would be nearly impossible to replicate those controls on a conventional controller; and as the motion controllers become more sensitive and accurate they will be able to produce more meaningful controlls for their games.

That tech demo, I'm not convinced the Sony controller could do an FPS proper... seriously he was trying to shoot stuff and it was off... and he was trying to those the "ease" of use lol

I am just so happy that Sony did not make a BIG thing out of their motion, It feels like a eyetoy thing buy a game just made for it and nothing else. Im so happy that they still remain like 95% controller 5% motion :). Micro and Nintendo are now ruined for me due to their Natal and well Wii always had motion.

Im a lazy guy and I hate motion the less the better just my opinion.

Except you can't move your character with Sony's motion controls, so they'd need to address that first....

Add a analogue and voila problem solved. Although i would recommend a second device. Most likely having 2 of the wands. Each one has a analogue.

The breakapart controller would work too.

So add $20 for each analog to the already expensive combo that is the PS Eye + up to 4 wands... Or buy 8 wands....  That would be like $400-500....

8 wands at 20 dollars is 160 dollars.

plus .. how much is the eye ? 30 ? that's 190.

The 360s camera is rumored to go on retail for around 200

This is certainly a cheaper solution than that. And cheaper than the wiis controllers.. but ofcourse this is all speculation at this point.

I really did find it interesting and i hope it'll get some good support and not just ports of wii games lol.

Try 8 wands at $50.  The price of the Wii-mote.  This thing is so similar I see no reason for it to be as cheap as the nunchuck addon itself.  That's $400 right there.

I agree that the things it can do, it does very well, but they will need to figure out a way to actually make it affordable and add the analog at the same time so that you can do all the movements.
