The price point of PSP 3000 at $149.99 and PSP Go (which most people said was going to cost $300.00) at $249.99 is much more reasonable than DS Lite at $129.99 and DSi at $169.99. DS Lite should cost no more than $99.99 with DSi out and DSi should cost only $149.99.

Huh? The new PSP version costs $100 more? Why is that? or what is PSP Go exactly... new CPU and graphics?

Well he's wrong on so many fronts.

PSP is only $170, not $150.

We don't know too much about PSP GO, but it does have 16GB internal memory. That's huge in my opinion.

ZIPPO...FF 14...Great, like getting an exclusive MMO makes sense...other than that, I guess the PSP GO...but since it's $249, and will compete with Ipods and Zune...ouch!

I don't know what the megaton was, but I got what I wanted at E3. Gran Turismo 5 videos. I would have preferred a release date but at least we know its coming along nicely.

Gran Turismo PSP will be a buy for me.

Everything got leaked, we we're expecting MGS on 360, we knew about natal, Saw the new psp in full, we pretty much already saw the team ICO vid(this would have been the biggest shocker without a doubt had it not leaked), and FF14 was actually leaked we just didn't know it was going to be titled a main game in the series. The Final fantasy title does give it more weight though as an exclusive. You could hear the audience's surprise when everyone thought he was going to show verses, then he says FF14 that was a 'shock' and then 2010 release was big because 13 is releasing the same year - very unexpected. Rockstar's agent was a big deal but we had no gameplay/teaser of it.

FF14 -- chec out ff forums, people are going crazy

Announcing the name of a game and nothing else isn't a Megaton, it's just almost annoying as announcing an anouncement.

And are you really surprised that Final Fantasy fans on a Final Fantasy forum are happy about a new Final Fantasy?  Don't get me wrong, if it's anything like FFXI I'll gladly get it day one but that wasn't really anything near a "megaton" announcement.  Surprise, very much so, megaton, not so much.

And just as a note-- I consider megaton announcements as the things that make people walk away from the show and say damn dawg, Sony totally took that show because of [insert announcement].

And I agree, I don't think Sony really had one.  People already knew about the PSP Go so that took away the excitement and the price took away even more excitement.  People already knew about Trico so that took away the excitement.  Metal Gear for the PSP was nice, but nothing huge and definately not as huge as it would have been for the PS3.

Two good examples of megatons are the Metroid: Other M announcement and the Microsoft FFXIII announcement from last year.  The Metroid one this year was a megaton but it was a small one, and the FFXIII announcement last year was obviously a huge one as it made the internet throw up all over itself.

Id say FF14 being an MMO is a reverse-megaton lmao

It was one of those moments where you get excited and scream "OMG! OMG! OMG!" and then the trailer ends and says "final fantasy xiv" and you start to wet your pants and then see "online" and scream "WTF?!? COME ON!!!" But i'm still interested in it. I'm also still apprehensive about Square Enix but I haven't seen them screw up on the FF series too badly so I can't complain.

Actually it was the reverse for me.  I was wondering what the hell they were doing advertising the next FF on an HD system before they even release XIII.  I was sitting there thinking how stupid of a move that was until they showed it was online and then I was happy.

You thought Metroid was a megaton? I'm happy a new one is coming, but I really didn't think it was that big of an announcement.

I would say The Last Guardian...we were not supposed to see the leaked footage :P

Of course:

  1. Nobody expected it (except for the nuts who just want to see Metroid or the ones who just want to make crazy prediction so they can say HA! in the off chance they called it)
  2. It's a complete revisioning of the series
  3. It's made by a difference developer than the traditional Retro
  4. It's made by a developer with a great reputation
  5. It's made by a developer who doesn't traditionally work on Wii games
  6. It had a kick ass trailer
  7. It had gameplay (or what looks like gameplay) and it looked like teh stuff we've always wanted to do with Samus
  8. It came right after a very low point in the keynote which made it wake everybody up and say holy shit.

Everything about that announcement was just right and just plain huge and it makes sense since that's what they ended the show with.  I consider SMG2 and the New Super Mario Bros Wii announcements as just announcements but the Metroid one was pretty major.

As I said, it was on the low end of the megaton announcement scale but it I think it was still a megaton.
