Forums - Sony - Sony has 4 Gaming Machines In The Market

Sony has 4 gaming machines in the market. (The PSP Go is not released yet, but will be in October 1st)

The four consoles:

  • PS3: 22.5m // Over 320 games coming out this year alone.  Best game this year Uncharted 2
  • PS2: 125m //  Over 100 games coming out this year alone.  Best game this year Jax & Dexter
  • PSP: 50m  //   Over ???  games coming out this year alone.  Best game this year Resident Evil PSP
  • PSP Go: ?? //  Over ???  games coming out this year alone.  Best game this year Metal Gear Solid PSP Go

Tell me if you guys think that having 4 gaming machines in the market is good. The PS2 will likely stay for another 2-3 years, because already 100 games are announced for it. It is Sony's casual (cheap) gaming console. The PS3 will stay strong because of its gaming line-up and new model (slim) plus a price cut. The PSP 3000 will be the last of its kind. There will be no PSP 4000, etc, etc. Instead the PSP Go! will replace it.

By the end of the year, the consoles sales will look like this.

  • PS3:   33m
  • PS2: 132m
  • PSP-3000 + PSP Go!: 67m

Tell me what you guys think about Sony's plan on having 4 gaming machines.

Now, thats pushing it...

Tease.

Wonder how much Profit they get from each...

And i wonder if PSP:Go will be sold at a loss.

The PSP Go is still the PSP, and I seriously doubt the PS3 will sell 33 million units by the end of the year.

Sony had a problem focusing on what was important and what could be on hold....

Notice the lack of PsP support for the past couple years, not to mention PS2 saw a lack luster support as well..

now with budget cuts they have even less people to focus on what is what..

to much on ones plate? who knows,we will see..

^^thats only 11million, its achieveable, Sony stated 13 million, so it might be even higher.

PSP-Go will be considered as much of a console as DSi, its all based on the person's perspective

Reminds me of Sega...

Sega got trapped into that same situation, to actually a worse degree then Sony is in now. Sony is going to have to eventually cut ties to the PS2, so they can migrate people over to the PS3. However, without backwards compatibility, they can't. The PSP Go vs the PSP has issues of software distribution. The release a new portable unit that has the same specs as a less expensive system on the market, but unable to play the games currently on the market. Their hope is digital distribution will be their answer, and their hope it is. For the PS2, HOPEFULLY they can do a decent emulation of software of the PS2 on the PS3, so they can get out of the PS2 business, and come out with a thin PS3 to replace the PS2.

If there is yet another trend in the market that comes in, Sony could be hamstrung here.

The PS2 hardly counts anymore as it's not really selling. It sold ~6 million last year. I might sell less this year. It's not a system that need support anymore and probably wont get a boost from software.
