I wasn't talking about legal obligations either.
Firstly, the MG(S) series is not even as strongly associated with PS as you would like to believe.
the MG series started on the Gameboy (I believe that was the first) and the MGS series has seen iterations on the GC and Iphone.
I just don't see why making a game a multiplat instead of an exclusive should be frowned upon. It is very risky to make exclusive HD games, and surely 360 owners also getting to enjoy MGS games is better than the studio risking bankruptcy and not making any more games ever |
The MGS brand does have a strong association with the playstation brand , not a completley exclusive association but that doesn't mean that the relationship is any less significant, I think playstation consoles have at least had more exclusive MGS games than any other.
No one ( at least I didn't) argued that MGS5 shouldn't make an apearance on any other platform , I think as many people as possible should get the opportunity to play the Metal Gear games , it's an amazing experience.
What annoyed me was the way in which Kojima presented the new metal gear game with all the XBOX 360 branding all over it , it was like MGS4 was never released exclusivley on the PS3 , like all those MGS games never made an apearance of other playstation consoles.
| samus aran rules said: "Sony "stole" them with the use of other means. Superior technology and opportunities for third parties" You got to be kidding me! Did PS1 have superior technology more so than N64? No it did not. PS1 was 32 bit and N64 64 bit. Either way that wasn´t the reason. The reason was that PS1 did get a much bigger userbase and bigger money was to be made on Sony´s platform than on Nintendo´s. "Wait... wasn´t the first metal gear on a Nintendo console??" Exactly. Which is something Sonyfans never seems to remember in cases like this. Sony weren´t the start of it all when it comes to videogaming, there was a time before it. |
I will take your challenge.
1. N64 released later than the ps1. Another thing is that the Atari jaguar also had 64 bits. Does that make it better than the ps1 and equal to the n64 ?... No :p and while the n64 did have some advantages over the ps1. Nintendo was struggling the third partys by controlling which games was released and taking huge license fees over their cartridges. Not only that, the disc space on those were also limiting.
By using the ps1 they had more space for their games (look at cnc 64. It might have been 3d but it didn't have any fmvs from the ps and pc versions of the game.) and they were cheaper to publish/produce.
Superior technology doesn't always just mean 5 extra polygons on screen at once you know :p
2. The first metal gear was PORTED to a nintendo console yes.
But it originally released on the MSX or something. I'm not sure if that's spelled correctly... Something that nintendofans never seem to remember in cases like this :p
Regardless it was mg and not mgs (another notion) all mgs games were on sonys consoles :p
PS3 isnt the biggest platform there is anymore.. PS2 had around50-55% market share and now that share has been split between PS3 AND 360, add to the fact that HD/Bluray has raised game budgets and with the recession and M$ dangling money over kojimas head.. it was a given the series would probably find home elsewhere.. heck i wont even be surprised if it makes an appearance on the wii
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:
a. a AAA 3D sonic title
b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"
c. redesgined PS controller
d. SEGA back in the console business
e. M$ out of the OS business

And those games weren't on ps consoles ?
MGS .. check
MGS2 check
Now i dunno about the mobile game or the gameboy game.. but i believe those are usually what's referred to as spinoffs.
And MGS:Rising will be on a Sony console. So business as usual from Konami and Kojima then

I only said that all mgs games were on ps consoles so i don't see your problem ?
regardless i think the whole thing about it is that both mgs3 and mgs4 were playstation exclusive. Not to mention the first metal gear solid until a generation later.
If i had to take a guess.
Rising isn't called 5 so it also counts as a spinoff btw :p

Yes, Sony doesn't deserve respect , let's overlook the fact that they've massivley contributed to modern console gaming ( more so than Microsoft certainly ) more so than the vast majority of gaming comapnies , let's ignore the success of the PS1 , PS2, PSP , PS3 (at least marketshare wise) and the wealth and diversity of 1st ,2nd ,3rd party support Sony has brought onto it's gaming platoforms. The playstation brand is synonymous with gaming and Kojima does respect that , it's just that everyone respects money more. |
Frankly, by most of the logic employed in this thread, Kojima is showing great respect to gamers.
Even if the game is Xbox 360 exclusive, he is offering it too a far greater number of gamers than if it had been PS3 exclusive.
