Forums - Nintendo - What can NINTENDO do to win E3 now & is Wii Dead?

Nintendo won't have to worry about Natal for another year or two. G4 just interviewed the creator of Natal and he said you won't see it this year, but in the near future. Keep in mind that 2011 is the year the next generation is supposed to be released, If Microsoft follows its four year life cycle than Natal will be coming out just in time for Microsoft's next console.

I for one doubt that Natal will be released on X-Box 360 or if it does it'll be just like Twilight Princess, coming to Microsoft's next generation console and on the 360. The fact that Natal will cost a ton to buy and only have a few games availible on it means that it won't pose an immediate threat to Nintendo. However when it comes boxed in every new X-Box (Next generation) then and only then will it become a major threat to Nintendo. But by the time that happens Nintendo will have something new to show.

In other words Nintendo's fight with Natal will start in 2011, not to mention as many have said it'll be hard for Natal to interact with FPS, Adventure and other genre's. I think Nintendo's next controller will level the playing field Nintendo still has two years to get ready for Natal. I suspect we'll see Nintendo's answer to Natal at the 2011 E3 conferance!

The 360 motion is at an estimated price of $200. That's not going to fly very far.

If thats true, then the Wii is very much alive... and laughing in MS direction.

Are you serious, it will cost 200$?

Microsoft-suicide confirmed.

E3: Microsoft Xbox throws down gauntlet with "Natal" controller

Posted by Brier Dudley

LOS ANGELES -- Microsoft revealed a motion-sensing gadget for the Xbox 360 that it said will change the future of entertainment -- and not just play catch-up with Nintendo's Wii.

If it works as promised, the device could dramatically raise the ante in the competition between the Xbox, Wii and PlayStation and usher in a new era of immersive entertainment.

Code-named Project Natal, the device is a horizontal bar about nine inches wide and stuffed with cameras, depth sensors and array microphones.

It can detect the voices and motions of people nearby, so they can interact with an Xbox and games just by talking and moving their bodies.

Prices and timing weren't available, but it won't be available until 2010 at the earliest and will probably cost around $200. Microsoft has already given game developers tools to start building games that uses the device.

At first it sounds like a challenger to Nintendo's Wii, which uses motion-sensitive controllers. but Natal recognizes gestures and motions made by the entire body without any sort of controller in the hand, Microsoft Vice President Shane Kim said.

"This goes way beyond the Wii," he said.

Natal will also add voice control, so users could walk up to an Xbox and use their voice to start a movie or check messages.

Kim said the device is intended to remove "barriers," making the Xbox more accessible to people who are intimidated by all the buttons and controls on a traditional game controller.

Nintendo is going to keep the interest of casual gamers with Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort coming out...

The 360 thing is more like a novelty and nobody is going to pay that much for a peripheral.. that's the kind of thinking that brought down Sony.

WM+ is 20 bucks lol, that's just pure fail.

The important question is, does Nintendo need to win E3?

It lost E3 last year and it doesn't seem to have impacted sales.

But to answer the question:

New Mario.

Where are people getting this $200 price from? They didn't announce anything at the conference. Sounds like the anti-Natal smear campaign is already in effect within 5 minutes of its announcement.

You're so funny.  You just created a conspiracy theory out of nothing!

To quote Mr. Dudley, "Prices and timing weren't available, but it won't be available until 2010 at the earliest and will probably cost around $200. Microsoft has already given game developers tools to start building games that uses the device."

This guy is pretty clever to give an estimated price and date when he himself admits that these details aren't available.

Also for the people claiming this will be next generation, the presenter specifically said they can release this next generation technology on this generation. This will be on the 360.

the natal was more of a joke than anything IMO... but the Wii really needs something or it will die. seriously, i'm not that much of a gamer cause college really hit me, but when I go to best buy and gamestop I see no Wii games that I would ever spend money on. it's embarrassing.

I have every Wii game I want, and it's not really that many (15-20 tops.) although I only have about 6 PS3 games, when I go to a store, I actually see games that if I was a big gamer, I would actually buy.

this is coming from a nintendo fanboy.
