I think the 5 extra minutes is because negotiations for a big musical act came through at the last minute, possibly in relation to Lips: Number One Hits.

Of course that is just a guess (based on comment on Geoff K's twitter) on my part and it seems like it would be hard to keep that hidden but I still think that's it.

I really hope that microsoft knows that people who follow E3 announcements on Twitter do NOT care about Lips...

I agree with this completely, but MS didn't say anything, Geoff K. did, and I sometimes wonder if HE knows what folks are really interested in...

On topic with Epic...do I dare hope for a Gears of War 3 that takes the best of 1 and 2 combined with hosted servers?? I might actually spontaneously combust from joy.

This is very possibly the additional 5 minute announcement to be made. It has to do with an Epic game being exclusive, or Microsoft acquiring Epic, making ALL their games Microsoft exclusives. And with that announcement, Epic will be doing the next Halo.
