Forums - Nintendo - Who think MadWorld would have sold better on other consoles?

HD gamers have been starved for a good hack and slash action game for a while. DMC4 was a while ago, Ninja Gaiden II came and went, we're still waitiing for GoWIII, so there was definitely a market for it.

Then why Ninja Gaiden sold so few???

It didn't sell terribly. It almost hit a million. Will you be able to say that about Madworld a year after it comes out?

1. It's possible.

2. Ninja Gaiden is a known and popular IP that dates all the way back to the NES.

MadWorld would have definitely sold better on the 360 or PS3, because on either system there isn't much of a choice when it comes to bloody action games. Owners of the HD consoles are starved for that kind of game, so they would even buy a short low budget title like MadWorld in huge numbers, simply due to the lack of alternatives on their machines.

I'll have 2 disagree with that. They have Ninja Gaiden 2(and 2 sigma),Devil May Cry and stuff like Heavenly Sword.Gears is also gory though its a shooter, not a hacker. But let's face it,it might have sold less on HD consoles.Nintendo gamers are usually more willing to try new stuff than HD gamers. Not every HD gamer is a core gamer. Many of them are 'casuals' by my book.My definition of casual isn't girly or babish, because some babish games are hardcore,my definition of casual is the typical stereotype boy in my country. They don't LOVE games like I do.They play Soccer(for 90% of their game time),GTA,driving games,DMC & GOW and war games.

Then a few dat like games a bit more than the average guys will add a few very AVERAGE adventure/action  games to their library because the boxart looks 'mature'.They miss out on all babish hardcore games. They even miss out on RPGs completely and games like Zelda. Now,with this being MY definition of casual, many casual HD gamers would never give madworld a chance.Okami and Deadly Creatures are also examples of how niche or unusual games sell. The fact that Okami sold way better on wii shows dat nintendo gamers are generally more open minded. The fact that Windwaker sold well means that using a very popular name for a new game helps. If Deadly Creatures was called Resident Evil:Deadly Creatures or some other popular name,it would have sold more.

So there. My opinion.Besides,I don't have a single HD-playing friend dat liked Madworld after I described it & showed em pics. They didn't even WANT to see the vids!

Haha! Another point to Rol

Do we really need threads to discuss if game X would have sold more on console A or console B?

On topic, I don't see how Madworld would have sold more on the HD consoles. It's a niche game no matter how you look at it. As people pointed out before, games like Okami or God Hand did not fare any better on the PS2.

It would have sold better on 360 and PS3. Games like Uncharted and The Crackdown have both sold better on PS3 and 360 than similar games on the Wii. It's not a niche game as some have said and unlike Okami (an adventure game where the main play mechanic is painting) and Psychonauts (a platformer except for the big few the majority of platformers since the 32 and 64 bit gens have been rather unpopular) because gamers on the hd consoles love violent action games and it has the whole Sin City aesthetic going for it with a lead character that was very reminiscent of Sin City's Marve. And Sin City was a very popular movie. Like No More Heroes it would have sold over 1 million on the 360 or PS3.

Also, for all the talk I've seen some make. Madworld isn't a bad game. It received 90s from Play and IGN, and I believe its Metacritic score is still higher than Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Wii Play, and Mario Kart Wii.

Like which ones?! There are not similar games on the wii like those you said! And don't tell me "Tomb raider underworld" because THAT GAME FLOPED IN ALL CONSOLES.

Yes it is. Is a weird, stylish and extremely violent game that very few would be interested in.

Well again you can't say that because there hasn't been any simmilar games on said consoles and don't expect them ever. Those games, like it or not are too weird and full of cliches that can hardly sell.

So did Okami on PS2 and was a failure. So what, it was SONY'S fault?

@Bobbuffalo
How much did Okami sell worldwide on the PS2?

It sold 210k in Japan(lifetime), and ~87k in the United states (first npd month).  No clue about Europe.  That capcom guy has mentioned 270k which a lot of people took to be worldwide sales, but it makes more sense that he was talking about the US or North America.  That was a year ago and he said they were still selling a few thousand copies here and there.  So probably around 500K plus Europe.

Bad sales all around indeed, but at least financially not a disaster. Sales around the 650K mark would mean a revenue of about 10M for the publisher, considering the price cuts. Let's hope for Sega that Madworld reaches the same financial status.
