Forums - Gaming - Is the Ps3 the Golden Era of this Generation? Let's have a discussion!

just for the sake of correctness the "golden age" of gaming in considered to be the late 70's and early 80's right before the video game crash:

then the NES ushered in thr "modern age":

and now we are in an era, that hasn't been named yet:

I completely disagree with your post and I'm a multiplatform onwner too. The PS3 is no more diverse than the other consoles, anyone saying otherwise doesn't buy games for all 3 consoles.

So far... the Wii has it, just for the motion controls.

Towards the end of the Gen... considering that PS360 will likely have motion also, id say PS3 will be the "Golden Era" console.

What is up with people not knowing what an era is?

I had already explained this if only you had taken the time to check the earlier comments made in the thread instead of making such a stupid and useless comment.

Megaman.2:

Shanobi's comment was neither stupid nor useless.  An era is a period of time, so you cannot use it to describe an object.  I could almost excuse your incorrect usage of the term if it weren't for your derogatory comment towards Shanobi.  In doing so, you have nullified your "objective" argument for the PS3 and revealed your own pettiness.

I fail to see how this appeals to the casual market... anime is far from mainstream. Yes, there are anime such as Naruto that appeal to kids, and a much fewer ammount of young/full adults. However for the most part, although it has become extremely visible in the subculture of the internet, it has yet failed to truly become mainstream.

I say that the anime cover, if anything, will turn casual American customers off. Casual doesn't mean cutsey, and hardcore doesn't mean gory. I know plenty of people who don't play games at all, yet buy "hardcore games" (e.g. GeoW or Halo 3). Valkyria Chronicles is certainly less mature and violent that GeoW or Halo 3, however it does have a harder learning curve (I suck at it. Gonna try to beat it again without grinding) and more niche qualities than more popular games.

first, your thread title makes no sense, and i'm aware this was pointed out but, when we look back will the ps3 library be the golden library of this gen? or video game history? elaborate.

Secondly, owning all current gen consoles doesn't make you neutral. Having a quote that states: "Known to many as the sony leader but i'm an entertainer at heart" completely discredits your neutrality.

Thirdly, you say this discussion isn't about the best game library but most diverse yet you point out the ps3 having "the best game this gen". I mean what does the best game have to do with diversity? The tone you use suggests you made this thread to flaunt the ps3 library as the supposed best and this tone argument is well supported by your golden era/golden period term that, although misused suggests you meant diversity as a stand in for BEST library.

Fourthly, you put ratchet and clank in two different categories.

Fifth, how the hell does valkyria chronicles appeal to casual gamers???

Sixth, heavenly sword, buzz quiz tv, eyepet....seriously???

Seventh, I wouldn't call heavenly sword, warhawk, uncharted the most casually appealing games.

Lastly, MGS4 winning best game this gen within a very small gaming community that does not accurately sample the gaming audience as a whole is not very valid. Mass effect and bioshock have equal right to dispute that title and in my opinion were more innovative than MGS4.

........I'm tired....

First off, your whole paragraph doesn't make sense... at least divide it into a numbered list if you're going to number things.

If you're tired, then don't type such an eyesore.

Why would each generation get its own golden era? The Golden Era of Gaming is still alive and well, but now we call it The Virtual Console.

Call this era, "the golden era that made the 'original golden era' irrelevant". Btw, can you explain to me how the late 70's and early 80's are the golden era??? I'm tired of golden = OLD as fuck, that era was simply near the beginning of the video game industry, idk how it's golden.....

Quality......waaaaaayyyy higher now.....popularity.....higher now, what else is there?

PS3 is DEFINITELY a MUST have console THIS gen.

I`m not sure, why would anyone play Wii for a long time. Because of controls? It will be FUN for several month, but later you will get bored. GAMES? So far, Wii has LESS great games, that GC had by this time. At 199$? Well Wii is a MUST HAVE for a party times, though LBP is a lot of FUN too.

x360? It`s like most  x360 exclusives are already on PC, so even after getting x360 Pro model to 199$ price, why would a gamer with a good PC buy x360? It would be really hard for me to find 10 worth to play exclusives on x360.

Now PS3 at 199$. With GT5 it`s a must have. With FFXIII + FFXIIIv it`s a must have. By the end of this year, PS3 will already outnumber x360 with GREAT real exclusives. MGS4+MGS5 - must have. TriCO - must have. Competitors just have no chance.

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.
