Forums - Sony - Portable Size-Off: How The ( PsP Go ) Measures Up

T be fair NAZ, this is just like the DSI, an answer to the Ipod Touch. They are still keeping the 3000 version, so people who like a bigger screen will a get a better choice.

All I need to know is the battery life before i make up my mind.

It's such a waste. The PSP is an excellent media player. The best portable video and music player on the market for the price. Why throw that away? I'm not saying the idea is bad, but don't lose the one thing you do well. Screwing up the screen makes this signifficantly worse at playing games and videos.

Wait, WTF!? They screwed up the aspect ratio, and made the screen smaller. Who the hell made this thing? They should be fired.

No seriously, that's ridiculous. Now games have to be letterboxed or stretched, and it's a significantly worse portable video player. Wow. Smooth move Sony.

I haven't checked with a ruler or anything, but the aspect ratio looks the same.  The PSP logo on the regular PSP is below the screen and is part of the outer bezel, while on the PSP Go, it's above the outer bezel and takes up part of the screen's real estate.

Well the DSi, and ipod changed to a bigger screen, not a smaller screen..

And the DSi was the answer for the PsP-3000 more then the other way around..

Hmm, I value the larger screen. No PSP Go! for me.

PSP Go is likely at a higher resolution though.

The screeen size can still have the 16:9 aspect ratio, and the first pics might be a bit off :D Love it and first day purchase for me :D

All Sony needed to do is make the PSP slimmer and add that second anolog stick, that's it. And better battery life.

This one is just a Sony Mylo.

Done in GIMP:

PSP image in that screen is about 242X138 pixels.

PSP Go image in that screen is about 215X123 pixels.

These were rough selections, but they are close enough to figure out the aspect ratios are clearly different. What this means is that current PSP games will have to be stretched or letterboxed on the PSP Go, compounding the issue of the smaller screen. This makes it a signifficant gaming and video downgrade.

The thing is they arent throwing anything away, the PSP 3000 is here to stay

Too bad you said "had." That statement might have been somewhat more flattering for you.
