Forums - Sony - Blu-ray players to reach $99 as normal not fire-sale price by XMAS 09

Eh $99 BR player, definitely appealing, how much do BR players similar to the PS3s in quality cost at this point?

Wow that dropped quick, seemed like it was just yesterday that it cost $1500.

That should be the end of DVD players.

It will be the end price-wise. Now marketing just needs to ramp up demonstrating the differences. They did this last year and need to revamp the ad campaigns to really push BD this holiday. If they do this I could see a 50/50 split betweeen BD and DVD (max).

good for blu ray mainstream here it comes

Don't expect Blu-Rays themselves to get much cheaper. That would have been like expecting DVD's to cost as much as VHS. Its just not going to happen.

You will see older titles get discounted more aggressively though.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

ps3 is always going to be the best blue ray player

I got the Magnavox last Christmas and boy does it suck. Lags with input and is slow as hell starting up. It is also an older version of the spec with no upgrade options available. But, I must say, the movies still look damn good though.

Great news... but alas... I own a PS3.

4 ≈ One

sharp it's already a 169$ here, in a third world country.

99$ or at least 130$ sound likely by christmas.

Unfortunately, Lord of the Rings is only the theatrical version, not the extended version. After owning all three extended editions, I just can't go back. Now, if they released the extended versions on Blu-ray...

The definitive versions have been out forever in a format called 'book' that requires no power!
