Oh and STAGE, can I make a bet with you on some of things you've said in this thread?
Primarily the "It won't sell a million first week in Japan."

They both will sell great because they will be great games i dont think there is that much need to debate which one will do better, especially they not even really competing with each other.

Sure, i'll be willing to bet.
I hope you make him get some kind of "FFXIII is so much better than Mass Effect 2" avatar and sig once you win, outlawauron.

New IP's, especially large budgetted ones usually score better than their sequels because they're new and inventive. Just fixing the issues of ME will probably get it around the same Meta, but it doesn't ensure a higher score by any means. |
I don't think that at all. Having seen everything that Bioware are trying to do with the sequel, I have every confidence that if they pull those things off the game will score higher than the last. One of the major complaints about the last game WAS the technical issues, and fixing these would go a long way towards fixing reviewers impressions for the sequel.
But you are of course correct in stating that alone will not garner the title 90+ scores.

| Pristine20 said: To sum up this thread: 360 fans: ME2 may not win NA but it will be better than FFXIII Everyone else: FFXIII will sell more than ME2 everywhere and will be better too. Personally, I really don't care what the sales of either games are but I know I'm picking up FFXIII and skipping ME2 even if it came to PS3. I simply prefer JRPGs to WRPGs. People seem to think it's a crime for games to be linear nowadays. Everyone is looking for multiple endings, multiple paths etc. Movies are all linear but we still watch them multiple times. I've played ffxii(the awfully boring one) 3 times over. I didn't need multiple endings for motivation. I prefer straight forward storylines where all the effort goes into pushing that path not multiple half-assed paths. I'd also rather have 60 hours of playthrough in one storyline than play the game multiple times to get 60 hours because I want to see a different ending. |
I generally enjoy WRPG's more, but I agree to an extent RE the multiple endings and linear comments you made. For me, Mass Effect offered the perfect balance. Just a couple of alternate endings, and only a few, very well done, winding paths. But Oblivion for example, I did not enjoy. The title gave me far too much freedom. On the other hand, I loved Lost Odyssey, which was extremely linear, and I loved Fable, which was also quite linear. I adored Fable 2, which was not linear, but also did not throw you into a world and say do what you like (story-wise at least, you could do anything else).

well if u just take in consideration xbox 360 sales of FFXIII then ME will win. But if you count both platforms FFXIII no contest

He better be ready with an ME2 Owns FFXIII banner. The game will still sell 500-700k first week.
I hope Mass Effect 2 is good, But I just find all WRPGs generic and boring. And with the quality that the last Mass Effect gave with it's technical problems, I have my doubts.

so the argument continues I had a feeling it would. realistically te same thing could be said about 360 fans never admitting that Final Fantasy is better than Mass Effect. putting bs arguments of fanboyism aside, FFXIII will be better than Mass Effect 2 by a billion miles. sales is the smallest way in which this will manifest itself, although it will end up selling millions more. FFXIII will be the definitive RPG of this generation.
