Forums - Gaming - Is Activison starting to really milk their games now?

They've been doing for about a year now with Guitar Hero and they're starting to do it with Call Of Duty every year. How bad do you think this will effect them? Anybody remember Tony Hawk? A game a year for ten years, and they're still doing it, but it's not selling anymore. Do you think this fate can happen to GH and COD if they keep this up? Discuss.

Yes. They have a knack for killing their very own franchises.

Guitar Hero sales are already starting to slow, COD is at the height of it's popularity at the moment, but it eventually will be ran into the ground.

It happened with Tony Hawk and it will happen again.

The way they are going recently, yeah this will happen =/

GH is already starting to decline but if Infinity ward is the one that makes the rest of the Modern Warefare/COD games then they will be fine but if Activision lets Treyarch keep making every other one COD will eventually die

I definitely think you're seeing it with Guitar Hero. If you look at Guitar Hero III, it sold somewhere around 14 million copies amongst all the consoles. Guitar Hero World Tour probably won't even come close. It doesn't help that they're putting out four or five of them a year now (with all the shoot-offs, "Greatest Hits", etc). Call of Duty is definitely hitting its peak, but it too shall fade. Shame.

Bah!

yeah and they have even said they are doing it on purpose...there ceo or someone high up officially said that they are putting more effort into proven money makers rather than creating new games

there was a thread about it a while ago, Im sure if you searched you could find his exact quote

ZING.

Oh how I wish it were true though, I like Rock Band so much more. But GH has beaten RB in sales both times, and even RB2's sale have declined from the first game.

Rockband FTW!! DLC is way more attractive than buying a new game. Rockband has been great by allowing rockband 1 owners to keep buying and playing the DLC. FUCK GH

Long Live SHIO!

RockBand has shown there customers that there not about releasing a new game ever year and milking it,they offer DLC and take there time so everyone has the premium RockBand 2,unlike GH.
