Forums - Nintendo - Convince me to play The Ocarina of Time!!!

This probobly sounds like the most idiotic thread title of all time.  But I'm gonna try to explain.

Link and I go back a ways.  When I was really young, I played zelda on nes till the battery save thing died on me.  Took a while for that to happen.  But every now and then I'd just beat it again, then second quest it.  Loved the game, blew my tiny mind.  Zelda 2 I never beat as a kid (I now have on VC), but I loved it even more, the side scrolling action, the darker tone, the towns with npcs!  Played that a lot too, hard but I loved it.  A Link to The Past though . . . Now that was intense as a teen with snes,  I felt I was beating it to fast, so I limited myself to a dungeon a day.  Still played it over and over, and again was completely blown away, by the dark plot, cool look, and awesome playability.

After this though I took a break from consoles.  I had a job at 16 and bought the next gen early, and all the other systems too.  Got genesis, game gear, turboduo (now that i loved tho), neo geo (amazing!), 3do, saturn (some awesome games), and the ol jaguar (people hate it, but if they had one with tempest 2000 and AVP, theyd have played those games a lot.  unfortunately no other games).  Got kind of videogamed out, met girls, etc.  Starcraft filled the game gap for me too.  Playstation just never got me as a result, probobly unfortunately.  And N64 I hated as I felt they went backwards with cartridges, and got too kidsy (ive since changed my view tho).  As a result I never got Ocarina of Time, or tried it.

So now DS gets me into nintendo again, and I got a wii.  I also immediately got nintendo points and a ton of VC games in one day, one of them was The Ocarina of Time.  I wanted to play it later on, as I was playing a bunch of wii games then.  But I've tried to get into it several times, and I'm always put off by the story in the beginning, which just feels not too interesting, and the fairy character, which i kind of dont like.  I worry I've outgrown the game or something.  I should note I feel the same way about TP, which I also own, and haven't played.

But just on Ocarina of Time, I feel I should like it, but now my 360 broke and I'm debatin trying it again.  Convince me that based on what I've said, that I'll like it.  Give me the kick in the ass I need to play this game.

Thanks.

Play it if you want to play one of the greatest games of all time.

Around the Network

This is the game that changed the way everything was done. I remember reading as a kid the gamer magazine Next' and it had a edition with the cover page 'The king of RPGs' in bold red letters. On each of it's thick paper glossy pages they showed massive screens of this complete 3D world and I would think to myself how could this be possible? Every detail, every screen just made me drool and once I finally played the game it not only blew me out of the water, it solidified me as a Nintendo Defense Force member for the rest of my life.

I remember allowing the game play past the opening intro screen twice because I thought it looked so damn beautiful. Nothing that comes out today in this genre or frankly any other hasn't been influenced from that title. No, you're not a true gamer at heart unless you can go back to your roots and OOT is one of those roots titles.

It's like playing A Link to the Past for the first time. It's absolutely amazing through and through.
