Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft: Apple Could Be In The Console War

There has been a long list of names now that predict Apple will soon be entering the console market, and now Ubisoft has become one of them. With the Iphone app store thriving extremely well and Apple making bank in other areas of the game industry, who wouldn’t predict this? I can guarantee its just another common ground 360 and PS3 fans can agree on, and it’s us.

“There’s also a new entrant in the business,” he said. “[That entrant is] Apple, with the iPhone. And we don’t think they will stop there.”

Yves Guillemot noted during the Ubisoft conference. However people forget that Microsoft has been on that boat for years, allowing users to create games and apps completely free for others to use via the Zune or Xbox by using the XLNA feature offered through PC. Sony is in a similar boat too with their boasting of indie style games on the PSN.  With Microsoft countering their every move, the only thing I personally could see happening is them helping a company like Sega get back on their feet. Is Apple truly ready to step into an industry dominated by Sony and Microsoft? Then again Yves brother runs GameLoft, one of the biggest makers of Iphone games, so maybe they could have one exclusive company right?

However it wasn’t just Apple that he predicts will have a huge outbreak either, "We will see more customers coming to the video game industry .. they will start also to come under the boxes you see under the TV because those TV boxes will be more powerful.. We will see more consoles on which we will be able to put products. As for the next generation of consoles we can't give you a date but from what we see there is a lot of energy to improve the consoles [that are out now.] We are already working on some of the elements that will appeal in the next generation."

At least that’s a good sign right? Ubisoft, at least for now, doesn’t expect to see streaming services take over just  yet. He also is noted for saying next generation consoles will offer more interface to them, including such things as the cable box and other features that make them more accessible, similar to what we call the PS3, but in a larger scale….Stay tuned as E3 is just around the corner and more news could break out soon!

Tell me what you guys think. You think Apple will or will not join the console war? Post your answer!

I hope they release Imagine: Party Babiez for the "IGame"

Pixel Art can be fun.

The videogame industry is dominated by Nintendo and Sony, not Sony and Microsoft. Lifetime to date, 6 billion of the 7 billion videogames shipped worldwide for Nintendo, Sega, Sony and Microsoft systems have been for Nintendo and Sony systems. 360 is starting to change that, but they've got a long way to go yet.

There are enough competitors in the hardware market as it is.

I want to say I don't see it happening but it could. If it does I don't think it would win the generation though.

This console will probaby retail for about 1500bux and come with a Turtleneck mocap controller.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

if apple does enter the console market they will over price their system and go the way of the 3do i am afraid. apple makes great products that are realiable and user friendly, but their products are also way overpriced and thats the main reason it wont beable to compete with the big 3.

Apple could be successful if they ally themselves with Sony and the established Playstation brand. If they try and apply their trust fund darling methods to the gamer crowd they will be laughed out of the market.
