Super Mario Galaxy? Not a system seller? Are we talking about the game that won nearly every game of the year award, and is the highest rated game of this generation?

GTA 4?

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Okay, so GTA 4 is 98, Mario is 97. That's a HUGE margin there.

I think it's noteworthy that fan reviews have GTA 4 at 8.0, and Galaxy at 9.1.

When you get that high in the margins, the smallest difference apparently means the world to people. LOZ: OOT is 99.

If a monkey gets a blog and starts posting stuff.......would be linked here?

Galaxy came out in 2007.  GTA 4 came out in 2008.  They both won a lot of awards, but in different years.

As for rating, it goes:

LoZ: OoT, N64 - 97.61

GTA 4, PS3 -  97.29

Galaxy, Wii - 97.28

Super Mario World, SNES - 96.70

Metroid Prime, GC - 96.33

GTA 4, 360 - 96.28

That's pretty close at the top.

Mario Kart Wii is selling it's phenomenal numbers because it's a guaranteed 7 million seller to start, with the addition of coming with the Wii wheel and appealing to new gamers on what is going to be the most successful console of all time... I really don't think it has anything to do with which predecessor gave them the most inspiration.

It's hard to beleive that when the director said he designed the DS one (and Wii one) by going back to Super Mario Kart, and that the last two games are also the best selling. Also, New Super Mario Bros does better then Galaxy and one is based on old school Mario. It's hard to deny this.

(Beyond the fact of the "Case of the Missing Pronoun) Malstrom is a lot more than "Some Monkey." We post him becuase he actually knows what he is talking about. Sadly, he does not get money for this work, yet he knows more than the people who do get payed. When Iwata talks about disruption, he pulls out "The Innovator's Dilehmma." The analysts and journalist just screem that the PS3 will make a come back and that casuals can't destroy the industry.

It is not surprise he is posted as often as he is.

EDIT:Sorry for the double post.

I know that is what the director of the game said, but I don't see much connection between Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart Wii.  To me, it has more in common with 64 and DD.  Maybe I'm just not seeing the connection.

I would be curious to see how much Galaxy has sold when the Wii gets to 100 million consoles sold.  Someone already pointed out that the attach ratios for it and NSMB are pretty close.  Galaxy has been tracking below NSMB lately though: http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Super+Mario+Galaxy+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=New+Super+Mario+Bros+-+DS&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100

And just to say for GR, if you combine 360 and PS3 ratings, it would dip below SMG ;).

That being said, I'll give you SMB3, but Super Mario World was bundled for the most part with the SNES, Galaxy was not. I'm sure it would have done better if Nintendo decided to bundle it :D.

but gta reviews were paid for and thats a fact.

gamespot anyone?
