Forums - Sales - The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass

How do you think it will do when it is released in the US and Canada on Oct. 1?

I'm really hoping it will be #1 on VGCharts BUT I seriously doubt it will be because it will be the second week of Halo 3's release and, other than Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, DS games haven't really been debuting big (although they generally have good legs.)

Hmmmm.... no replies.. I'll just elaborate on my first message.

The last Zelda handheld game, The Minish Cap, sold just over 1 million copies worldwide, including only 270,000 copies in Japan.

So far, sales of Phantom Hourglass in Japan have nearly equaled the total worldwide sales for Minish Cap, despite the fact that the Zelda series is not nearly as popular there as it is in North America and Europe...

I think Phantom Hourglass will sell about 350k in its first week, not enough to dethrone Halo 3, but still a pretty good seller.

What did Zelda TP sell in the first week? If PH has a similar pattern in NA as Japan it will have long legs.

Well, TP was released on 11/19/06, as a launch title for the Wii. TP sold 441,285 that week compared to 535,008 Wiis sold which is pretty impressive.. nearly everyone who got a Wii bought TP to go with it.

A month later, the GameCube version debuted with 292,353.

I think Zelda:PH should do around your prediction of 350k. Anywhere from 350-450k should happen.

IMO, it should do NSMB numbers in the US (around 2-2.5m units).

But from what I've seen, PH deserves far more.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Zelda Phantom Hourglass is doing better in Japan then TP so far... it should sell a million within 3 weeks...

I expect this game to sell like hotcakes; a million in NA is the least it'll do imo. mrstickball's number sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

Hard to say really... Minish Cap was an awesome game, with a much higher install base. You would think that Minish cap would have easily outsold this game especially in the states. I'm expecting great things from the game but great sales may not go hand in hand with the quality of the game.

We haven't seen a lot of advertising from Nintendo yet, so many hardcore Zelda fans might not even know it exists.

I keep forgetting how soon it's coming out.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Yeah a lot of people say that... I never tried it myself but I'll have to get it after I'm done beating PH. It looks like a lot of fun.

On the portable side, Links Awakening is by far the best in the series.  Have you played it yet?
