Forums - Gaming - Would you play a September 9/11 game?

Oh for goodness sake.

MUCH worse things have happened than the 11th of September and yet games are made out of those. Take WW2 for example, or Vietnam.

If the game was fun, I'd play it.

If you can shoot Vietcong, Japanese, Germans, etc... in games, then why would it be so bad to shoot Americans?

Anyone who keep saying that you're a hypocrite because you play WW2 games, please show me a WW2 game where you go and kill innocent civilians?

Oh wait..

Sure, why not? It would be just game not reality.

/me goes back to Dwarf Fortress to kill some kittens and cats.
(Sounds cruel, but those are spawn of evil in Dwarf Fortress.

I think a game from the victim in the towers point of view could be pretty intense. You could really raise tension by hearing real recordings from police radios saying a 2nd plane is coming, while you are trying to get past various obstacles as quick as possible.

And I don't think it would be disrespectful at all, if anything it would show everyone just how horrific that day was (if it was made right of course)

Oh wait..

Not specifically WWII, but in Rome: Total War you can go on a rampage across Europe and the Mediteranian, enslaving a half of a setlement's population or exterminating 2/3rds of a population for the sake of public order and the confiscated properties of those who were killed. You are encouraged to destroy and rebuild your own culture's buildings so that public order will be higher (as cultural differences causes low public order) In GTAIV you are able to attack civilians and commit acts of terrorism (car bombs for eg)

Oh wait..

Most Germans had to join the army to fight. It wasn't their choise. They were innocent. I've also played a lot of wargames were I always shot my own army, you know the innocent Americans. :)

Oh wait.. I proved you wrong.

If it's a good game, then yeah I would play it. If it was a bad game, then I wouldn't. There is no other consideration I would make.

I wouldnt.. but I can see the validity of some statements here, if we can go kill innocents in games set in the middle east or WW games or even civilisation games.. what makes 9/11 any different from these situations. On the whole it would just stir up a shitfest of controversy. At best it would be mediocre.

Im not sure any of the console makers would even allow such software to be published on their platform.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

A short search of Wikipedia shows that casualties in WW2 are estimated at ~66 million, with only 25million of those being Military casualties. That means 41 million innocent people lost their lives in that war.

And we play it in COD. And I'm not saying we shouldn't (in fact I do enjoy blasting Nazi scum) but look at the numbers for 9/11 in reference: ~3000 killed ~7000 injured. That's a horrible, awful terrorist attack but pales in comparison to 6 million Jews being killed simply because they were Jewish or ~11 million innocent Russians killed in the crossfire between the Nazis and the Soviet Union.

OT: I would probably not play it because I don't see how it would be fun, but if they made something where you could resist the guys on the plane or just shoot them and it was fun I might play it.

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

No, because it would have to be a boring game. Play the events of 9/11? Watch a plane fly at you? watch a plane crash into a building? The only possible action aspect of such a game, in accurate context, would be playing the part of a terrorist taking over the plane... And that would be 1) in bad taste and 2) short on content.

The only way I could see it working and being any fun at all is taking the actual events completely out of the equation and playing the role of a Jack-Bauer type agent racing to uncover a terrorist plot, and if you do well enough, you're able to prevent 9/11.
