Headstrong once again hints at House Of The Dead: Overkill sequel

May 26th, 2009

A portion of an ONM interview with House of the Dead: Overkill producer Neil McEwan…

NM: …I knew we were onto a winner with Overkill when the team started quoting lines from the game in the office. I knew we had something good. We definitely didn’t restrict ourselves with anything. I think we could even go further with it. And we’ve already got ideas what we can do and where our characters go from here.

ONM: So there’s another one on the way then?

NM: I can’t really say but when we were working on our characterisation for Agent G and Washington we gave them a backstory and because we feel a lot of love for these characters we worked out where they went after Overkill. So there’s definitely still scope in the Overkill universe.

Er... have you paid any attention this gen at all? Especially to SEGA. They have released numerous high-budget HD games and every one of them has been a massive flop. Companies that are consistently releasing million selling HD games can't get out of the red in financials. Do you have any idea how much of a cost drain on the industry HD systems have been?

I should've put /sarcasm at the end of my line.

I was playfully assuming the normal anti-Wii fanboy stance of refusing this game's success no matter how many times Sega or Headstrong says they are happy with its sales. Somehow, all HD games are wild successes to them.

I just hope it is NOT an on-rails shooter. A lot of people are turned away from games because they are on rails. I think we have plenty of good on rails shooters on the Wii and more awesome ones are coming. Make it like a Resident Evil 4 type game.

I could actually see them making the game on a very small budget, looking at the game it looks terrible but it's meant to for that grindhouse feel and it gives it 100%, small enough that they broke even yet? not sure but if they're happy with sales it's probably at breaking even or at least close.
