Maybe some delays on all fronts are on purpose: games to be released this year had their development started before the crisis and reached near completion and final stages when crisis got worse, so could be almost unaffected. But games to be originally released next year are still under development now, and funds could be currently shrunk if not already allocated before, so delays could be unavoidable, and in this case, delaying some 2009 projects could fill holes in 2010 line-up. In other cases, being quite sure that next Xmas most people will have less money to spend, not releasing everything at the same time, even if ready, and avoiding overkilling a meagre Xmas with an offer too big for people pockets could reduce the risk of underperforming in sales. And nothing forbids more than one reason for delays to overlap.
