Forums - Sony - My PS3 sometimes stops reading BlueTooth devices, why?

Maybe you've got a dodgy PS3. My friends PS3 cracked him up, it always froze on him, he had bluetooth errors, dsl errors etc etc.

He got that pissed that he kept trying to break it because he was still in warranty and wanted a new system. He ran the system for like 4 hours whilst the vents were covered up with towels. It still wouldn't break for him.

After his warranty ran out by 2 months, his PS3 overheated. Lol

If my PS3 breaks, it breaks.  I obviously won't be happy but I also doubt I'll rant about it since that's just what electronics do (I know, sounds surprising, but I understand things just break this isn't like me bitching about trophies).

The thing that worries me though is that I heard if you have an 80gig PS3 with full BC and 4 USB ports that there's the chance you won't get the full BC and 4 USB ports back if they have to do anything to the motherboard (and that I would rant about).  I was afraid this was an overheating issue which means they would have to do something to the motherboard.

Back when I had my PS3, it stopped connecting to my dsl after I downloaded one of the firmware updates. It just wouldn't recognize my dsl connection at all. I had read on various websites that attempted to help deal with this 807....... error as it is called and they suggested totally disconnecting your PS3 and modem for a few minutes and then trying again.

I did that more than a few times and still couldn't get it to connect. So, I decided to just unplug my PS3 and store it in its box for about a month hoping maybe it would "forget" whatever was causing it to mess up. Well, after that month was over, I figured I would try it again, and I did get it connect on the first time. However, I accidently reset its ip settings, and again it wouldn't work. So, I put it in its box again and waited a few more days, then I took it out of its box and hooked it up. It hooked up to my dsl again. I took absolute care to not do anything that might throw it off again, and I logged on to PSN to download the latest firmware update that had been released since the one that was apparently messing up my PS3, and I was able to download the firmware update successfully to my PS3.

After that, it didn't give me anymore problems hooking up to my dsl connection, so apparently the problem was in the firmware update. Maybe your PS3's latest firmware is causing it to have an allergy to bluetooth products like mine did to my dsl connection.

you were getting DNS server errors. Turning the PS3 off doesn't fix it. All you had to do was power cycle your router/modem with 1-2 minutes of off time and it typically fixes itself.

Currently I'm getting DNS errors like crazy, but I can live with it for now.

did you download the latest filmware??

I downloaded the inFamous demo. If there was a new one after that came out to the general public, then no.

@twesterm

I completely understand not wanting everything plugged in one socket. I have to do something about my setup. I have everything in 1 power strip, and my subwoofer is now plugged in via a high quality outdoor extension cord to the other side of the room only because I ran out of sockets

Oh, and while I'm derailing your thread, I'll say I have the harmony 890 with the RF extender and the thing totally rocks. I'm considering the PS3 adapter, but for now it will have to wait as I've spent WAY to much over the last couple weeks. It was a breeze to set up for the basic functionality. I still have to tweak it a little for zone 2 operation, but I don't have my speakers installed yet because I'm waiting for wall mounts. Once those are installed I can play with it and make sure it is working how I want it too.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Turn on your PS3 and then just hold the power button until it beeps at you three times.  It usually takes me a few tries to do it on purpose so just keep turning it on and off by just keeping your finger on the power toggle and it will eventually beep at you three times.  I'm sure I'm missing something and that's why it takes me a while, but that will eventually work.  :-p

Hmm, so I still have two problems:

  1. I just did the thing where it didn't take input from BlueTooth devices again.  I tried turning the power off, waiting a few seconds, and then turning the power switch in the back on again and that didn't fix it.  I turned the switch off again and I'll try again when I'm done writing this post.
  2. A few hours ago when I was done playing it wouldn't actually turn off.  The remote control didn't turn it off and holding down the power button didn't turn it off so I finally just had to flip the switch in the back.  I tried turning it my PS3 input so I could try and turn it off with the controller but I had no picture and no sound.
  3. While playing Uncharted I had the screen turn completely staticy and then turn black for a few seconds and then it came back.

I have completely new cables so I don't think it's the cables (I even bought nicer ones instead of the cheap generic ones).

-edit-

I couldn't turn on the PS3 with my remote or controller but after manually turning it on it recognized my controller again.

The not recognizing blue tooth devices is possibly due to interference from other electronics in the area.  Im not sure what frequency BT is, but if you have electronics running at a similar frequency, I'm sure that will mess it up. Like this guy :

"After hours of head-scratching and headaches, I remembered that my Logitech Z-5450 5.1 speakers were also wireless. I wondered if those were causing the issue by adding some sort of interference and making the controllers disconnect. On this hunch, I hooked the PS3 directly to the TV for sound and turned my Logitech system off. BINGO!"

The graphical and power issues sounds more serious. GPU could be going =/
